Pile O' Shame

Sometimes on the go and good doesn't cut it though, if they lack the spark/addiction. I started Metro myself a month or so back and rally enjoyed the opening hour but I've obviously been avoiding it since. It's why I play small games as a rule - I find them trickier to put off for a rainy day once I've started.

    Feel ya.

Although it appears I've gone too hard in that direction. Here I am on a rainy day looking for a big adventure to dive into and bouncing off stuff.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Its tough motivating myself to chip away at something big. I only tend to play for an hour at a time and I like that session to take a big sledgehammer swing at a supporting beam.

Gorogoa and flipping death are both excellent.
Looks like I'll be casting the deciding forum vote on Flipping Death. Cosby didn't like it and I think that might be it for badgers who tried it. It's been on my list of games to look out for a discount on for ages.

It’s not quite as charming as Stick it to the man but I still loved it.
  • Ugh I didn’t last long on Stick It To The Man, just found it so irritating with its attempt at humour.
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • Things have got a bit out of hand for me recently. Been breaking my own rules of one game at a time, and not buying until I've completed.

  • How did you get on with what you played of Astro Bot?  You're most of the way through the main missions iirc.  That rails/minecart mission, wow.
  • Yeah its great, can't fault it.

Been replaying every level until I find all the bots and the hidden chameleon so it's taking longer than just blitzing through.

Only problem is VR in general has that can't be arsed Wii vibe for me, and after an hour it starts to give me a bit of fatigue. Not a Virtual Boy my head feels like its going to explode after 10 minutes feeling, but definitely enough to want to turn it off.
    オレノナハ エラー ダ
  • Heh, thought you might be collecting all the stuff. I probably got 70% of them, been thinking about trying the challenge mode soon.
  • A challenge mode sounds like a pain in the arse, only because of my tendency to want to 100% everything.

Horizon Chase Turbo is a prime example. Seeing the credits was merely finishing the World Tour. Since then I've done about 75% of both the Tournament and Endurance modes, which is just replaying the same races in a different format.
    オレノナハ エラー ダ
  • Thinking about it Horizon was designed very cleverly in that respect.

When I did the World Tour I felt compelled to pick up the coins in the races and ended up replaying every race until I did. After that I thought I may as well do the Tournaments, after that I may as well do the Endurance. Then unlock all the cars etc etc.

    Its like Forest Gump running:
That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd run to the end of the town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd just run across Greenbow County. And I figured, since run this far, maybe I'd just run across the great state of Alabama. And that's what I did. I ran clear across Alabama.

It actually sums up my game playing habits. It all stems from the first optional objective pulling me in. If it succeeds I can't put a game down until I've done everything.

Good design for replay value I guess, sometimes I curse it though.

  • Different strokes. I enjoyed Horizon but felt it outstayed its welcome by a few hours just getting to the end of the world tour.
  • I feel that way now but the state border is in sight.

  • If it's under 100 titles is it even a pile of shame?

    Exactly. Four figures or GTFO.
  • I'm disgusted with the amount I have.

I done the whole buying and never playing when I worked in EB/GAME in the PS2 era, a lot of money wasted.

After a huge cull I don't regret changing my ways and this thread helps keep a lid on things somewhat.

  • I need to update mine again. I reckon I've added more than I've removed recently.
  • I mean, I feel you retro, it's just the amount of free/cheap stuff that flows on pc is ridic.

My steam collection is nearing 200 strong. My done list of that is maybe, just maybe, 60.

Plus another 5-6 titles that are never really done, but I've given good time to.

My epic list is now at over a dozen games. I bought and finished ashen, I have hammered hades, and then there's 10 to be played.

GWG stuff, fair way into metro exodus. Have DLed to play another 6 games.

And I always forget I have a handful of things on gog.

(and x amount of unclaimed keys on humble.)

Destiny 2 shadowkeep is the most expensive game I've bought in I'd say 2 years, or since the last destiny expansion. And that was only $50.

(and yet I was a hairs breath from buying divinity 2,but the sale ended the day before pay day.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Agreed. My pile of shame is so big now, it's practically shameless.
    I blame epic for that.

    How is GalakZ?
  • It's good, but I'm not playing it in the standard roguelike/lite mode. It had a fixed/arranged arcade mode added post launch, which made its way to Switch port as part of the special edition and saves your progress between stages. It's early days as I've only played through the first five levels. Initial thoughts are very playable but very tough. I'm not much of a shmupper, but I do appreciate the ones where you're free to navigate to an extent, rather than the fixed scrolling types I suck at. Even so, it's a difficult game imo, but (so far at least) only in an old fashioned learn-to-git-gud way - the trickiest stage up to this point took me three attempts.
