If we are going back another gen my list becomes gigantic....I know inwardly that I will never complete the stuff I have.

    Gamecube:
    Resident Evil : 0,1,2,3,Code V,4.
    Prince of Persia Trilogy
Zelda : Windwaker & Twilight Princess
    Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2
    Pikmin 1 & 2
    Metroid Prime 1 & 2
    Warioworld
    Luigi's Mansion
    Mario Sunshine
    Odama

    N64
    Mischief Makers
    Doom 64
    Mystical Ninja 2
    Zelda : OoT and MM

    Dreamcast
    Gigawing
Mr Driller 1000m still to 1CC and TT mode still to complete
    Super Magnetic Neo
    Bangai O
    Hydro Thunder
    Shenmue 1 & 2
Sturmwind (completed arcade mode but not the main campaign mode)

    PS1
    RType Delta
    Castlevania : SOTN
    MGS1
    Power Diggerz

    PS2
    Dragon Blaze
    Samurai Aces
    Gradius V
    Homura
Raiden III (have 1CC'd this but on a retarded difficulty level)
    Sky Odyssey
    MGS 2&3

feck it I give up.....there are even a few SNES games I always meant to spend time on like Blackhawk and Actraiser.

If I'm honest with myself I just don't get on with Resident Evil so I doubt I will ever clear those. If I were to wise up I would sell the complete Gamecube RE set and make a few bob on it. The only Zelda game I have ever finished was the first I played - Link to the Past and it has been a case of diminishing returns for me since that. I have spent less time with each sequel to the point with Twilight Princess in which I got on the horse at the start of the game and cantered around a bit, then did a spot of fishing and gave up.

Shenmue? Still in the 1st arcade I found - I highly doubt I will ever progress with that - I should steer clear of narrative style games - they just aren't my thing.

However I do see myself progressing with other stuff (find Viewtiful Joe brutaly hard though)

    The Last of Us
    Mass Effect 3
    Mirror's Edge
    Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge

    The Saboteur

Despite my list being relatively short (excludes downloads and PS Plus), I still don't know when I'll find the time, particularly as I'm completely absorbed in A Link Between Worlds at the moment.

Aye, I need to get playing! Not all are unplayed, but a lot are. Need to crack on with then though, cut it down a fair bit! What from the piles can be blasted through quickly?

Yes but you don't have any consoles and don't play many games. You don't count.

    Hey... HEY!!!

I'm playing Persona 4 G... I go through every dungeon at least twice, fret over side missions and social links, and never buy weapons unless I find them on the shopping channel...

In fact, merely owning a Vita requires a certain level of badgery.

How far did you manage to get into OoT?

Just get rid of some. Trade them in and get something decent. You've got 3 Skate games there. And 2 Tony Hawk games. That's seems like far too many skateboarding games unless you really really like it. Others that you can play and decide whether you want to keep or get rid pretty quickly are Pure, Grid, SSX, Soul Calibre 5, all the WWE ones.

As much as I'm not one for building up piles of shame myself (although I'm not counting digital-only games I bought cheap in sales. Ahem), this is something I really don't understand, why keep buying Resi games when you haven't completed the ones you've got? It seems like madness to me.

    I understand completley...
About 6 years ago my list looked like Elfs on steroids. Working at EB/GAME for 4 years I amassed a huge collection of games. For example; because I enjoyed the 20 hours of FFVII that I played I got every single one released for the PSone, even the old ones re-released, at one stage I was buying games just because they looked good, even if I didn’t like the genre.

I was exactly the same, it's like a disease. I can't recommend selling it enough. Like I said I felt liberated after clearing out huge chunks of my collection.

Then again shouldn't we all be selling the games we've completed and keeping the ones we've yet to play?

'tis the collector in me I guess. It is weird as not every series will attract me - for some reason I like having them all. The only one I paid full price for was RE4 and to be fair I have played that a bit. I have played #1 a tiny bit, but as for the others? I don't even think I have put 0,2,3 and Code V in the drive yet! I also have RE2 for N64 and Code V for Dreamcast. I think it's fair to say I need my head examined.

    Re Zelda:

Link to the Past - completed
Ocarina of Time - Jabu Jabu's Belly
Windwaker - can't remember - I got past an area that seemed to involve a lot of gliding around with a leaf - and then I sailed to an island and I got fed up wandering around there figuring out what to do next. I was enjoying WW but life got in the way and I can't return to a game like this after a week or two's absence.

Twilight Princess - nowhere past the initial "training area".

With games like RE and Zelda I get stuck - and end up going around a small number of locations - over and over again and getting bored. Once I leave a narrative style game for a week or two I forget what I am supposed to be doing and it ultimately gets abandoned. The little bits "in between" with games like this just feel horribly contrived - I can see past the curtain as it where. Life is to too short to endure fairly poor attempts at narrative - I have a Kindle for good stories.

I also loathe explorathons - I prefer the linear game. Explorathons are really linear anyhow with these "in between" sections a flimsy method of trying to hide the fact.

GTA Vice City - tried that - feck me that was a bore - gave up at a bit early on when I was attack by kitchen staff with cleavers.

I have never needed a scenario or back story for games. Even back in the day - the early 80's arcade games - when many used their imagination to set up a scenario I never felt the need - I love the abstract. If a game is totally self referential and contained I like it all the more.

Holding the wrong end of the stick since 2009.
  • Its a shame you only got to Jabu Jabu's Belly in OoT, it's my least favourite part of the game and it isn't until after that it really opens up into the great games it is.

  • Jesus my list is too long to put here. XBLA games alone would be too much but they include:

-Mark of the Ninja: played twice haven't had a chance to go back.
-That Shogun game, Skulls of the Shogun? Played once. Cost me a tenner.
    -Fez: Can't get into it.
-Call of Juarez: Gunslinger: Finished, brilliant game but so much more to do.
-Trials Evolution: Started playing again but the biggest timesink ever in the world.
-Snoopy Flying Aces: Purchased while drunk.
-Bionic Commando: Rearmed: Still not finished.
-Far CRy 3: Blood Dragon: Not sure I like it yet.
-Spelunky: Can't invest the time it deserves.
-Rayman Legends: Brilliant but a load more to do.
-Outland: Can't decide whether I like it or not!
-Wolves of the Battlefield: Commando 3: Great game but just never got round to playing properly.

There are many, many more but just looking at that list makes me feel sick. That's just the Xbox.

I've got Xenoblade, both donkey Kongs, the Mario games and Monster Hunter yet to play on the Wii. Fucking ridiculous.

I've yet to give MGS a proper run and I intend to.

I know I really should get back into OoT. Recently I watched a run through video of that section - running around with that princess on my head looked very annoying...

Intend at some point to do the other two - I also hear that RE0 is very good.

Holding the wrong end of the stick since 2009.
  • Jabu Jabu's Belly was pretty weak. People moan about the Water Temple, but I thought it was genius. Memories of poor sections in great Zelda games do tend to stick in my mind though - the robot escort in Skyward Sword (tadstone quest was fine imo), the Tri-Force quest in Wind Waker. Escort missions in general are pretty poor - the one in level 3 of Halo was horrible on Legendary; trying to stop the captain Leeroying in with a Needler was far less enjoyable than The Library for me.

Edit: Heating up the keycards in MGS etc. Even the best games take noticeable missteps.

  • Same here, amazing game for its time. Will always be a personal fav but time hasn't been kind to it.

I'd say that was definitely the hardest part of the game.

I don't trade in, so that wouldn't happen.

I got stuck on Soul Calibur. It forces you to use specific people, and I'm useless with the one it wants here. I might find I'll do it first time if I go back now.

The WWE ones are basically just playing the Road To WrestleMania storylines, so I could do that I guess.

  • Same here, amazing game for its time. Will always be a personal fav but time hasn't been kind to it. I'd say that was definitely the hardest part of the game.
I hated that bit. Right near the end of the level too, so if it went wrong you had to do the whole thing again.
  • Overall I definitely prefer to have just one or two games on the go, without others distracting with their presence. Recently I found myself trying to get through games quickly, to move onto other things, when normally I would've spent more time on them. Trying to get a time on Trials or beat a challenge on Peggle now seems a waste of time (which it probably is anyway), because I could be actually aiming towards completing another game so I can tick it off the list.

I think the best thing to do is not buy anything for months and consciously save some games for later in the year. Spread it out and take my time. But then there's Dark Souls 2, which will probably take precedence whenever I can get my hands on it.
  • i'll just stick with the 'AAA' underplayed games on my list, rather than try to list them all:
    mario galaxy 2
    dark souls
    zelda skyward swords
    arkham city
    last of us
    portal 2
    civ 5

    not even started?
    half life 2 episodes
    dishonoured
metal gear rising, xcom (from ps+ to be fair so they were free)
plus an awful lot of stuff from steam sales, and not even bought GTA5

I can't really even call mine a pile after seeing some others on here but I'm still making very slow progress. I'm not in a rush to go next gen but still want to finish this list before doing so.

The Darkness II (just started but it's been gory fun so far)
    Mass Effect 2 & 3
    Dishonored
    Vanquish
    Far Cry 3
Skyrim (doubtful I'll get to this now)
    Half Life 2 & Eps
    Mark of the Ninja
    Far Cry Blood Dragon
    Walking Dead Eps 3-5

I don't plan on buying any more full games but I'm still tempted by Defense Grid, Shadow Complex, CoJ: Gunslinger and Rock Band Blitz on XBLA. I have a bad habit of starting arcade games and never going back though.

Shadow Complex is fantastic homage to classic Metroid and everyone should play it. Not too long either.

Yeah ME2 will be next up once I'm finished Darkness. I started it ages ago and looking forward to going back. I'm sure I'll do 3 too as I've loved everything so far.

Shadow Complex has been on my list since it came out but I'm being a bit of a cheapskate and trying to pick it up in a sale. Might have to just bite the bullet on that one.
  • Anyone with Mark of the Ninja on their list, it's probably 6-7 hours in length and is really good. Same with Vanquish.

I know it can be daunting looking at potentially hundreds of hours of worth of games and wondering where to start. Well, start there.
  • Good point monkey. I should probably do that too. Start with smaller games. It's just that due to not having that much time, I am trying to prioritise the bestest ones, like the Souls games. But they're huge! Change of approach might be better. Maybe play big games at weekends and small ones on weekdays.

@Cosby: still need to play Half Life 2??? Duuuuuuuude!!! Start with that!!!!!
