    Stuff the knockers.

It's Daytona. Daytona doesn't really need to look that much better than the original. The Dreamcast version looked better than the original and the XBL version was similar.

All the lovers want are more tracks and a tiny bit of polish and that's what this gives. It has tournament bracket modes etc.

Would do me OK. Let Daytona be Daytona.

I actually quite like the social shit. Camera's on the drivers and stuff.
In this day and age though, such data can be used for anything...

It's done well here though, even if it is a small component of the game.

  • On my way back home from a lock in at the Angel arcade. Was £10 all in, cabs on free play. Strange experience. Attracted a certain type of person. Nice but, strange. Am now wondering if I am one such.
  • Free play is an interesting one, Its what you think you want, but it breaks games.

But how do you attract a punter without it in 2016.

    Anyone seen Final Fantasy Dissidia?

Had no idea it was a 3 on 3 fighting game.
When I first saw the machine and it's twin sticks, I only wished it was a fighting game...

That could be fun, I enjoyed Dissidia on PSP.

  • Dissidia's been around for ages no? I definitely used it several years ago for animation reference.

Anyway, general arcade news - Las Vegas Wardour St are getting a pop'n and Sound Voltex cab some point soon, and I hear they have taiko already. Starting to get quite a sizeable rhythm game collection in the capital!
  • Just played Luigi's Mansion Arcade.

Looks lovely, but pretty 'meh' to play, tbh.

Now there's a game I never would have pegged for an arcade cab.

Ran into a few arcades that surprised me in Akihabara, but I missed out on Luigi's Mansion.
Didn't have time for a proper look around, unfortunately, but found time to blitz through what I think might have been Sega Land.

Wish I had time for the following... Please jump in if you have answers...

Some weird Dragon's Quest thing with an odd, novelty joystick:

    lQBq4Tq.jpg

I think this is a Virtual On reboot... Looked good. Wanted to play this:

    wIU2Rn4.jpg

Dissidia, as mentioned above... NMD's right, it's older than I thought, and I was unaware of the PSP version, but Sephiroth in a fighting game that's not Ergheiz? Trippy...:

    tM2FaQT.jpg

I've seen this one on the FGC circuit before, but can't recall the name, or it's central conceit:

    wt5qHHv.jpg

I have no idea what the fuck this is, but thought it looked extremely cool. If any of you guys know what it is, details would be appreciated:

    RmzjzpA.jpg

There was another Final Fantasy arcade machine... This one was a rhythm action game...:

    AGVL4lb.jpg

This one was a complete mystery to me...:

    7KJbHVB.jpg

This last one, I think I've seen before, but again, if anyone can shed some light on what it's called, and what the fuck it does, that would be great:

    TEraE22.jpg

Would have loved to have had more time to look around Akibahara... It very much is the Tokyo of western myth, but it was far from the most interesting part of what little of the country I'd seen.

Looks like that AM2 one is Kantai Collection (whatever the hell that is).

  • Great pics Dyno! love some arcade snaps.

FF theatrhythm was released on DS a couple of years back I think, maybe vita.

The washing machine ones at the end looked like segas maimai but that's a music game and the pic looks like some racing game?

Theatrhythm and its sequel curtain call are on 3DS.

Yr top dq one is essentially a card battler, like Pokemon but iirc it uses real cards wit you buy.

Wonderland is an arcade version of a moba I believe. Never played but that's where the 40-a-day guys sit

Bottom is 100% maimai- maybe just a showreel vid?

  • Great pics.  Odd that a Virtual On cab uses a six button/stick setup.

Looks like it's been slipped into the generic sega cab they use for arcades these days. Virtua Fighter is often in the same build in Japn

Actually, the cabinet that I thought was a Virtual On reboot, might be some kind of robot anime spin off (I doubt it's Gundam though), as I can recall some branding on that cabinet...

Also, Initial D is still a thing over there.
The latest cabinet (2017 - 4 seater), was full when I passed it, but I didn't want to take pics while people were on it, as public photo policies are strongly enforced in some places.

  • I'm just relieved Mikado have managed to hang on by going hard in the paint on courting their nostalgic nerds and FGC ramblers via soc media, crowdfunding etc. It's like the only place I ever wanted to go, and now that's basically the only place you can.
They've done well enough to open a Spanish chapter now.
  • Play expo is on at Blackpool this year. 23rd-24th October at Norbreck castle.
