This morning’s piece is on the likely practical effects of a ‘no deal’ Brexit. Includes the lovely possible short-term scenario of food rotting in the fields because there are no workers to harvest it and no market to sell it to, resulting in massive disease outbreaks which we can’t get medicines for because free movement of drugs won’t be permitted and we’ll no longer be a member of the European Medicines Agency … and that’s before you get to there being shortages of doctors and nurses at the NHS to help anyway. Oh, and compound that with trucks full of rotting food blocking roads in the South of England because there isn’t enough room at Dover/Calais to hold all the vehicles backing up with the wait times for all the extra customs checks, paperwork and fees. All this coming about because of bad timing – Brexit day coming just as fresh food imports hit their annual peak and domestic harvest time comes around.

From the sound of things, neither side has their ducks in a row.
They’ve just been talking about repression on the news here - in what way do they feel they’re repressed? Are they treated as 2nd class citizens in the rest of Spain? Are they discriminated against? Do they lose out on funding, services or other areas?Kow wrote:There's some idea going around that it's a repressed area, which is the absolute opposite of the truth. They've had nothing but gain from being part of Spain. Every region of Spain is just that - an old kingdom that joined with others to form a union. There's nothing particularly different about Catalonia's position.
