The Sisters of Mercy did quite a few covers in their live sets. Jolene - Dolly Parton, Gimme Gimme Gimme - ABBA, Sister Ray - Velvet Underground, Emma - Hot Chocolate. I don't think any could be considered as better than the originals but they probably helped to cheer up the goths.
