I think part of the problem for me is that they showed too much, too soon. Whereas the TV movie version suffered from being overlong and, well, a TV movie - I none the less remember spending the first half of it imagining all sorts of unpleasantness taking place with Pennywise off camera (which, of course, made the ending a massive anticlimax). Whereas with this version...
So, yeah. Wasn't scared, wasn't excited. It felt like an extended homage to a series of older, better films, but without the overt nostalgic joy that Stranger Things tapped into.Spoiler:
