So, we now have a pub thread. But what about a sleepspot thread: hotels, campsites, park benches, etc.
Some from me... current lack of photos as on phone, I'll see what I can add in due course...
- The Caledonian sleeper. Currently on it for the first time in years. Having gone to sleep with Watford out the window, opening the blinds to Rannoch Moor this morning was quite something. Even saw a stag deer and friends. Beautiful light in the morning too.
- The central campsite in Florence. It's on the side of a hill, across the Arno from the town centre. A patch of green in urban surroundings, you wake up to a sight of the campanile, the meandering river, the distant sounds of the hustle and bustle of people who, unlike you, aren't on holiday.
- Grindlwald Youth Hostel. It's got the frickin North Face of the Eiger out the window. Probably tops the lot for me in terms of sheer, in-your-face majesty.
- There's one I'm thinking 9 near St Ives that gives out free minieggs. The name escape me. Will Google once I have better signal...
Of course, stories of particularly shite places appreciated too...!
I stayed in the Inverlochy Castle Hotel with the wife on our honeymoon. I hadn't planned anything fancy like a holiday to Seychelles, so thought we'd stick with the uk.
A bit expensive, but it's a great and beautiful hotel with lovely grounds. And Ben Nevis is just a small ride away. Fort William also not bad.
We had the room/suite with the four post Queen size bed. Got chocs and champagne on our first night, also breakfast in bed was great. Dinner was also fantastic, again quite costly as you know, but it was worth it. Good memories, we will be going back for 10th anniversary or something in a couple of years.
Going halfway up Ben Nevis (we started too late in the day and also didn't have the right footwear) was also great. Next time gonna go all the way. Alright, maybe not, unless we leave the kids behind.
Well, I did leave the wife halfway up Ben Nevis on our honeymoon. I only went a further 100m or so though before just heading back down, realising that it would be dark soon.
