It begins. I'll keep updating this op with the awards that come in - beginning with probably the Golden Globes.

Anyway - the nominees are announced on Jan 15th (everything has been pushed earlier this year to make it a bit more relevant) so before that, I thought it might be good to have a competition to see who gets the most nominees right in the eight main categories. Those are -

    Best Film (10)
    Best Director (5)
    Best Actress (5)
    Best Actor(5)
    Best Supporting Actress (5)
    Best Supporting Actor (5)
    Best Original Screenplay (5)
    Best Adapted Screenplay (5)

Remember that up to 10 films can be nominated for best film, and it'll be positive credit given here, no negative marks, so you might as well name 10. Person who gets most right out of 45 will win some sort of movie themed prize worth about £20 that I haven't figured out yet.

Put a star next to who you think will win - in the event of a tie, number of winners will decide it.

    Off you go!
  • I'm sorry, you don't have permission to create this thread.

  • You left out Sceeenplay Oscars, which are considered 'major' Oscars unlike the Supporting role ones.
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • Reminds me of a trivia question: which are the only 3 films to have won all 5 major Oscars? (Obviously can't win both Adapted and Original Screenplay Oscars)

So we are both right I think? Screenplays obviously have been and should be huge, but they talk about the "big 6" now on ET and all and they go acting. It's a modern thing. I'm happy to pamf on the two screenplay ones and have it be 8 categories, scores out of 45.

As to your question, only one I know for sure is Silence of the Lambs
  • It Happened One Night (1939??) and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1974??) are the other two.

    And cuckoo is 1975 iirc
  • But the oscars have more to do with how many gift baskets mirramax send out than the actual quality of the film.

I mean I like Marisa Tomei but.... come on.
    "..the pseudo-Left new style.."
  • Fucking awards. Popularity contests.

    Adding one:

    Best Foreign Language Film
    Leviathan

That's not necessarily what I think should win...just who I think will win.
  • I'm probably going to struggle to do this without some kind of long list to go from, especially the screenplay awards.
  • @cinty: is that who you think reg will say he thinks will win?

I stopped caring (if I ever did, should say following) Oscars a very long time ago. See post by Hamlet above.

It's who someone might say would win if they think like Reg thinks the Oscars think like.
  • Reg: can you put numbers of things in brackets next to each category? Also, are there bonus points for predicting and getting right winners?

I always find it funny how sequels are counted as adapted screenplays
