So it's unlocked but now needs an hour of updating and unpacking. It would actually have been faster to wait for the unlock and then download. Last time I ever preload.
Finally up and running. First impressions are great, it's Xcom. First soldier I was given for the first mission was an Irish woman, which made me happy.
One quibble - highest resolution seems to be 1920x1080, which is pretty low.
Does anyone know of any remote screen controlling software type thing? Does what im asking for make sense?
A friend of mine has kindly offered to install such a programme, should it exist, which would allow me to play XCom on his laptop while he goes out drinking.
I named my guys after real people now I'm afraid to play it. The tutorial saw half my team blasted (maybe that was pre written). And the first mission saw a psionic sectoid show up. So I'm not hopeful for anybody's survival.
So i think some hints may be in order, these are not spoilers at all but people might want to learn from their own inevitable demise (cost me 8 hours play today)
Spoiler:
Keep on top of clearing out the alien rubble in your ship and for gods sake buy the GTS first and increase your squad size. This made my second play through so much easier. It lets you buy upgrades and train rookies into specialists for free
Spoiler:
.
Spoiler:
Don't be too greedy when choosing missions over others because they give you money, it can really stall your progress because you haven't taken missions that give scientists/engineers etc. They cost a fortune if you decide to buy them rather than 'recruit' them for free buy completing missions.
Spoiler:
In regard to the stealth element, I've found this pretty effective: On the turn you are planning on revealing yourself before you take the shot that gives you away set a couple of men to overwatch. This will give them free shots before the enemies get to scarper into cover, significantly reducing the chance to hit.
I'm going to stream the OG UFO: Enemy Unknown later, because I'm still not convinced that even in the sequel they have managed to outdo the original in any other way besides the graphics, I mean the new story twist is nice, and the timer element hurrying you along fits nicely, but the stuff about multi-level buildings not working well is crazy considering the simple system they used for the original would probably still be fine today.

"Let me tell you, when yung Rouj had his Senna and Mansell Scalextric, Frank was the goddamn Professor X of F1."
What time? I'd like to see how it's done as tactical shiteness (everyone died on the ship before they'd even set foot on the map) stopped me from enjoying it.
