  • When this thing drops with a handheld component it will be lauded in the gaming press, but everyone will forget about the DC VMUs. Forever alone.

  • Ninty have instructed partners to start production of NX in October this year with mass production ramping up in April for launch in July 2016? Foxcom and another partner involved. Could be aiming for 20 million units available in 2016.

If those numbers are accurate it has got to be cheap and easy to code for lus possibly portable?

  • It's a home console. Might have some 3DS type controller, but it's a home console.
  • What if it is...
    Spoiler:
  • NX is a shoe box of unsold N64 expansion packs, 3m cabling, 1 roll gaffer tape, Miyamoto puppet Amiibo.

    Outsells PS4 and Bone overnight.

  • 1. Will launch with a whole new set of Amiibos? Yes

    Other than that, no idea.

    No
Tiebreaker - RRP (of 'basic' model)?
    £229

  • Tiebreaker #2.

What will they sell WiiU at when this thing turns up?
  • 1 - Can play on the move (i.e. some handheld element)?
No, but I wouldn't discount it fully.
2 - Can play at home (e.g. HDMI output)
    Yes
    3 - 4K support?
Fuck no. My £2k PC can do it, just. No console will be 4K until 202x. They go 4k and they risk the same issue with third party as they have being underpowered.
    4 - WiiU back compatibility?
    Yes
    5 - Wii back compability?
    No.
6 - Wii in the name?
    No
    7 - Subscription model (e.g. a la PS+)?
no, not Nintendo's style. Each game has a value and it isn't free.
    8 - Zelda at launch?
Like reg. A TP style launch.
    9 - Mario at launch?
Yes, full 3D type. Reignite that 64 passion.
    10 - Metroid at launch?
no, but within 6 months of launch (stealing reg answers here)
    11 - VR Support?
    No
12 - More than one SKU (e.g. basic + premium)?
No, but it will be bundled with a game default, like Wii sports. They shoulda done this with Nintendoland and they know it.
13 - eStore purchases all carried forward?
Nope, but "pay to upgrade" will happen again.
14 - new "Nintendo Club" scheme?
Yes, It has been announced. What it is, who knows. This may tie into being a PS+ of sorts.
15 - Ambassador program for early adoption?
No. Unless it flops, then yes.
Tiebreaker - RRP (of 'basic' model)?
£299 with a bundled game that will be standard (like Wii sports).

2016 to early?  If reports are to believed, they only just started courting 3rd party E3 just gone.  Is there enough digital booty in the NCL/2nd party line gig for a 2016 launch, even in the motherland?  U drought suggests maybe, but I still don't see a launch next year with some weight behind it, unless the the 3rd parties can auto-port current(at the time) one/PS4 flavs of the months with ease to give the launch a bit of weight.
  • NX could be 2 things (or both depending on the Ninty roadmap):
    1. A new console which unifies a 3ds like handheld with a more powerful base station as mentioned earlier
    2. VR with complementary amiboo.

Considering how long devs have been experimenting with VR 2 might reach us earlier than 1.

RRP will reman the same and down to retailers to sell off stock.
@DiluttedDante Maybe able to inform on how these are bought in given chat earlier elsewhere.
  • Im sure the portable element will be phone based. Like IOS you can play games accross all systems. Maybe certain NX games can play on the base unit and your phone?

End of the day we shall know a little more ref the NX and it's direction this Friday when Ninty hold their 75th annual shareholders meeting. Anyone interested in lasts years can read it here, where you can see their fears ref "handy me down" portable devices and how they still want to be creative/different in the industry. Whether it will be enough to make them the "strong one" when it finally surfaces who knows, but I'm looking forward to a few more answers ref the U & what's the new direction. Last year's.... http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/stock/meeting/140627qa/index.html

    This years.

Itawa doesn't really wanna gas about the NX, but there is a few nuggets of info in there ref the U and the mobile direction.

Also some concessions ref E3, which if you watch the vid & see what they were trying to do, whilst Miyamoto highlighting that Sony/Microsoft were hyping a fair few things that are years away, I can get on board with it a bit more than my initial reaction.  Still needed a few big hitters, but it seems the U is not dead yet.

Also a little VC info in there, which is another bug bear of mine ref the WiiU.
  • I doubt we'll see a 2016 release.
  • For the WiiU? Probably not.

if we try a positive spin...if ninty release in the summer, with mario and zelda lined up for launch, and a well specced device at a decent price....mario and zelda would drive sales, and the 3rd parties wouldn't want to compete with them anyway...but they'd then have 6 months for the sales to build up and mario/zelda hype to ease before Chrimbo, when they could release ports/NX versions of their games

E3 2016 NX announce, Holiday 2017 release Shirley?

Will they push for 3rd parties? Do they ultimately care? They've burnt a hell of a lotta bridges so will have to work hard to get that back. Ninty are still a bit of a Jap centric and traditional bastard to deal with on almost every level. If they do a Sony and start working with the West a bit more healthily then it could change the launch a touch.
There's every chance they stay the course, keep the 'Ninty way' and just stay 1st party.
