This is good. Trump did an interview with Time about truth, Jezebel went through and redacted everything that's not verifiably true. Unsurprisingly, there's not much left.

  • If Putin is a ruthless ex KGB 007 like renegade businessman gone ruler than Trump is.....Pepe the frog, a pathethic caricature who accidentally stumbled upon success and presidency.
No wonder Trump and alt right cronies idolise and adore Putin. WAM forever! (White alpha male)

I don't think I'll ever be not tired enough to read the full original transcript. Jesus, it's like someone ate a word salad and vomited it into a scrabble sack.

Getting tight on the health care vote. Trump trying to make it clear he won't have lost if he loses. The man is made of Teflon.

    Meanwhile, I like this guy

  • If it fails he'll just throw Paul Ryan under the bus. Well, further under than he's already thrown him.

Looks like he's done exactly that.  Photos suggest he may have even slapped Ryan in the face.  (I suspect not, but still, lols.)

And now the vote has been pulled, so obviously not a defeat then.  Shamble central.

It should go through. If a president with control of the house and the senate can't get a bill through it will look really really bad. The Republicans can't let that happen, it wouldn't do any of them any good.
  • It might not be worse than fucking over their own voters though.
  • So is it officially deadzville, or are they going to keep rescheduling the vote until it passes?

  • I wonder if Trump will have the front to blame the democrats for saying they wouldn't vote for it.

    I stand corrected, yay!
  • They must be so tired of winning by now! lmao
  • If Ryan purses any harder maybe he'll swallow himself.
  • That's fucking hilarious. What a shower of absolute shite.

  • More positive news:

$19.5 billion has been authorized to support a renewed commitment to NASA's manned space program.
Known as the NASA Transition Authorization Act of 2017, the new bill is set to herald in a new era of space missions and research with a strong emphasis on manned spaceflight.

The upcoming Orion capsule and Space Launch System have received particularly strong support, with a manned mission to Mars in the 2030s being one of the items at the top of the agenda.

The previously planned asteroid redirection mission, which aimed to bring an asteroid in to a closer orbit and then send a crew to visit it, has now been officially scrapped.

A flight to the Moon as early as next year however is now on the agenda as a possible alternative.

"It's been a long time since a bill like this has been signed reaffirming our national commitment to the core mission of NASA, human space exploration, space science and technology," said Trump.

The bill also supports plans for a new car-sized rover on Mars by 2020, a mission to look for life on Jupiter's moon Europa and efforts to locate exoplants using the James Webb Space Telescope.

Former astronauts are now also set to receive health care for life for spaceflight-related ailments.

The good thing is he can't point the finger at either the Democrats or the media. It's squarely on him and the Republicans.

NASA and Trump aren't exactly getting on well for obvious reasons. There's absolutely no reason to be positive about the relationship.
  • Elon Musk has cut through it like a knife in butter.
To put it in a nutshell it is nowhere near enough money.

With inflation adjusted Trumps plan is a third of the Apollo budget. It is a minor increase on recent NASA funding, the main reason it is being celebrated is because it isn't a cut.

The biggest problem facing a US state sponsored space programme is that successive leaders look to undermine their predecessors. There is now common goal on space.
The aim in this bill is to get to a man Mars by 2033. If that is going to be more than a corpse payload then every establishment from now to then needs to be budgeting ever increasing funds to the cause.
  • Still think I'd rather the money went to improving the environment we live in rather than funding the means to leg it once we've burned it all down.

The crux with ecology is making people care rather than the tech itself. Fermi's paradox and the realization that asteroid collision isn't as unlikely as people would like means it'd be sensible to at least have a few outposts spread about the solar system. Figuring out how to manage inter-solar travel without everyone dying horribly from stellar radiation would be nice too.

It's too week for some, and too harsh for others. It shall not pass!
  • It's pleasing to see how this health care bill has turned out. They've got to this stage by echoing the hysterical piss shrieking of Sarah Palin and other ridiculous tea partyers, for years and years, they've fought it at every stage, successfully voted against it as a unit, stoked up fears about death panels, reforming it formed the centrepiece pledge of most of these arseholes election campaigns, finally they get their moment and they fucked it completely. No ideas, no clue, just their lies crumbling around them.

Hoping for a Brexit equivalent to this.

There have been numerous non space benefits as a result of NASA's space program, including environmental ones.
  • It would be nice if all the money going on ruining Middle Eastern lives went on space exploration. We would be on Mars by now probably.
