  • Rules

    1. You are isolated without an chance of rescue regardless of the games chosen.
    2. Games cannot be used to provide food, water, shelter or any kind of raft or boat.
    3. Choice of game will not lengthen or shorten life span in any way.
    4. No internet gaming.
    5. You may pick local MP games up to the local capacity of that game, having extra people with you only extends to while you are playing that game. Think of them like Phantoms in Dark Souls. You can task with them but not truly communicate.
    6. Must be a game and not other software.
    7. Choose up to 3 games from any era, genre or console.

Rainbow Islands or New Zealand Story, Outrun, and CoD4. Put em all on a Pi and I'll use the spare compute to rebuild the internet. Ta

Threes! Halo 3 and a third game which may or may not contain the number 3.
  • I'd also consider Animal Crossing for GCN which contained a whole truck of NES games.
  • Tetris
    Ikaruga
    Super Monkey Ball

Actually, if I was stuck on a desert island, I might be tempted to get stuck back into Destiny, but presumably that's out due to Internet.

Even if it's not, I'd have to think hard about choosing a game that will have its servers shut down in my lifetime.
  • Fuck it, I'm listing 4 games:

    Mushi Futari 1.5
Street Fighter 4 local MP (could be 5 with more play)
    Mario Kart 8
Halo 3 for local MP. Split screen 4 player mayhem.
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.

To my mind, local play encompasses LAN for 16 player mayhem.

Then you get 45 extra games with all them people. Me, I'm hoping to be on an island by myself, CoD4 is a just in case local co-op. There can be only one extra place on my island.

  • I can only come up with two, off the top of my head: one of the Souls games and Minecraft. Neither of these are games I'd pay normally, interestingly. Probably some porn game or another for the third. Either that or something balls hard with a high score. Don't really know any of either, though.

I think the amount of time we'd have to spend on survival would affect the games we take, too, tbh. If there was fuck all else to do, something totally mind numbing to zone out in front of might be better.

You'll be playing minecraft mechanics on your island, you're clearly a sucker for punishment.

Hey can we get some psychoanalysis on game choices please before I do it...

Minecraft's not a bad idea, although it does raise the spectre of you sitting in a muddy hole in the ground getting rained on while you put the finishing touches to your Minecraft palace.
  • The more I think about, the more taking all local MP games makes sense; there's a constant stream of freshness there, no matter how shallow.

Halo 3 especially. Not only a constant stream of freshness in the main game, but a constant stream of different game modes and types.
  • Lumines
    PES5
Maybe a tennis game, Virtua or Super.

I still play PES5 over a decade after it came out, and enjoy it. I think two player 'classic-era' PES would always be quite fun.

Lumines just gets you in the zone, hours become minutes and it has catchy music to boot, assuming I'm stranded without the iPod classic. It's totally immersive, a good distraction from building somewhere to live, being terrified of tropical wildlife, pornographic fantasies and scanning the horizon for ships.

Tennis games are just almost always enjoyable, providing they're good ones obviously.

I'd choose an Everybody's Golf game too, if I could sneak a forth onto the island, but I'd be worried about getting bored of the courses or hitting a difficulty spike in the challenges. But then I guess I'd have plenty of time to practice.

The advantage of my choices is that you could get all of them on a Vita, you don't have to keep going back to the makeshift tent and messing around with plugs and wires. Although I remember the PSP port of PES5 being a bit shoddy.

The CoD local multiplayer and Sega Rally 2 player made me think twice about Ikaruga.

Monkey Bowling might be enough multiplayer with Wilson though.

Yeah I don't like this idea of an internet enabling MP on a desert island tbh, it has to local MP, Golden Eye or something that a Wilson can get involved in otherwise you're excluding anyone in your vicinity, should anyone get within it, on a desert island... :/ rules, lads, rules

  • - Civ V
    - A good football game (but I haven't played any of the latest ones, so I wouldn't know which)
    - Dwarf Fortress
I win... in the most minor way possible.
  • 4. No internet gaming.

Can I check leaderboards?  If so, Trials HD.  Even a monthly Morse code answer to 'where am I in the world on Chessboard' would do.

If not, still Trials HD, Trackmania Turbo and Micro Machines 2 for when I'm feeling social.

The community probably are, but all of the tools to build new levels and modes are in the game itself, so you could build your own.
  • Factorio.
    FTL.

Then maybe MGS5, Xcom 2 or Warhammer 40k. Or Advance Wars 2. Or Minecraft. I suck at choosing, sorry.
