The sound design, most notably when your avatar is heavy-breathing bricking it, and the mermaids of doom. Things designed to make me jump in films/games invariably manage to do so, but few games have managed the 'it's coming!' dread I felt two or three times when they were chasing me in this.

and there are ideas in there about control and so on. It's probably another game about games and the nature of player agency, especially given the secret ending you can unlock (which I hate by the way, fuck locking that stuff away) but in terms of it just being about games in a way that isn't related to the whole agency shuffle, my flat mate did a nice short video on its sense of Lovecraftian scale and stuff. I think he's spot on, the facility stretches away in an utterly ludicrous and IMPOSSIBLE manner. By the time you've rolled onto that beach you've traversed an incredible amount of land and there's almost no way of realistically understanding how deep, how high, how far you are into the facility, or if it is even logically possible.
