  • @Facewon, I think we're mostly agreeing, I suppose the issue is down to where the line is drawn between categories. Either someone draws a line, or we reduce the forum to about three or four superthreads.

Stupid question for any etymologists; why are some -ists practitioners or proponents of something (socialist, capitalist, etymologists) while other -ists are prejudiced based on certain factors (sexist, racist, ageist)?

Well a racist is some one who practices racism, just as a socialist practices socialism, so no difference?

I read an article about her recently. She seems like a level headed, liberal, tolerant type. Lovely person.

Racism appears to be on the rise, but I think that just goes hand-in-hand with a general shift to the right that seems to be happening across the world at the moment. I'm sure once millions more have died in wars that the Western world helped propagate and the white man's guilt sets in we'll be back to the left, with a New New New Labour singing songs and everyone living in Bennetton harmony again. At least until another ethnic group gets targeted by the media as the root of the worlds problems. It's all cycles.
  • Yeah what this forum needs is another serious discussion thread started by a white male so that some feel gud about themselves and other argue the toss. Jesus.

There's still a difference in the use of -ism there.

Rather than beat around the bush about certain shit, I'll admit to being quite surprised by homicide figures for black communities in western countries...

Now that really is a fucked up subject.

Incarceration rates are one thing, but markedly higher murder rates in and around one race would in someway give the police some reason for a certain mode of practice.

Of course, when innocent people become victims of state policy (police shootings), you have to make some drastic changes... But you can't just pretend there's no problem.

I'm pretty sure mass imprisonment isn't the right answer... For one, it looks like institutional racism, and I'm quite sure (if not absolutely sure) that it's exacerbating the problem. But with America in particular, there are some very specific issues to address, and they can't just be left to 'broil', as they might say.

I've not looked at any comprehensive breakdown, but I know there's an insane skew in the headline figures (homicide by race) that really needs a wider discussion.

Discussing the subject is not racist. In fact, I strongly believe it's a conversation that needs more attention (though looking at the knife crime summits they have in London from time to time, the subject is acknowledged). But it's a subject that can be used in a manner that would further a racist cause.

And that's probably why the topic is seen as a hot potato.

Crime is an interesting way of exploring racial predilections... But it's also a deadend, because crime, almost by definition, is an exception, and not a norm. There's much more to be said here, but probably by someone who's studied the subject.

My own theory however (you know me...), is that where you might find a racial predilection for a particular crime, you will also very likely find a cultural root. Not a racial one.

But it's a good starting point, because you know...

They all need to be rounded up...

    Well, you are married now.

What politicians do is political. Politicians' agency is widely afforded by racists, misos, bigots, idiots, and sundries. So we've multiple threads with a ton of crossover, I think.

I wouldn't say no to a megathread, but we're a small forum - we've lots of room. We've at least three threads for fighting games, two-plus for Forza, and shootmans all over the shop.

Pretty much. Absent of any conflicting evidence, which we are despite a large amount of time, money and effort expended trying to come up with some, what we're left with is culture.

So she's on the national broadband committee.

    First 3 questions (not paraphrased):

    "Can Muslims access this NBN?"

"Does the NBN thing have anyway of stopping data coming from overseas?"

"Accepting the fact that Asians, pardon me, Muslims are swamping us how can we somehow use this NBN to stop their migration here?"
I'm still great and you still love it.

Q: Can Muslims access this NBN?
A: No.  As foretold in the Quran, the NBN would be the harbinger of doom for all Muslims, but they can prevent this fate if they abstain from using it apart from checking email and Facebook (as allowed in the Quran), so it's a religious thing.

Q: Does the NBN thing have anyway of stopping data coming from overseas?
A: Yes, two large data gates are installed at the respective entry points.  Guards manually check the data for foreign-ness, and if any data is deemed to be attempting to enter the coutnry illegally, a tiny UDP boat is launched and the intrusive data is shipped back to its source, though as it's UDP there's no guarantee or acknowledgement that it makes shore again.

Q: Accepting the fact that Asians, pardon me, Muslims are swamping us how can we somehow use this NBN to stop their migration here?
A: Order some napalm from Amazon.

  • Still not convinced those are joke questions.

  • The whole blacks killing blacks thing is a result of the black community being moved to deprived areas and essentially being left to rot. The family structure through generations breaks down and there you go. Saying that you could say the same about why people from Glasgow are such dirty bastards following the collapse of the ship yards.

What i've noticed is that people REALLY don't like muslims anymore. As my mums muslim I never used to really think about it but now it's some sort of big issue. What I don't get is this whole Brexit thing where people complain about assylum seekers. They seem unable to connect the invasion of Afghanistan 300 years ago by Britain and other middle east nations up until now having anything to do with why people might want to leave the area... We only have ourselves to blame but nope... bloody muslims keep em out o blighty.
The next generation doesn't start until MAG comes out.
