I'll have to read those mini reviews, seems like there's some good stuff in there. Might go through the whole thread actually and see if I can pick up some retro titles that might be interesting.

I've added Super Metroid to mine, think I'm at 78 right now. I wonder how many more years I'll have to play to get to a 100.

    His list is here: http://thebearandbadger.co.uk/discussion/comment/1146363#Comment_1146363

But there’s no reviews in there. Just go back one page from here and you’ll see a load.

While the OP doesn't the second one does.

Is it really petty to say you’d like them swapped around?

On my phone now, so switching will be a hassle, but I’ll get this done.

I’ll also add Jon’s write-ups to his list link.

p 15. I'm a little concerned about the character limit, but I at least have one more post available just above the ones I've been working on. Hopefully that will be enough. I wasn't intending to write so much to start with.

I had to split mine over 2 posts. I placed a link in each post to the other half. You may have to split yours up more.

NieR: Automata was so good that it goes into the second tier.

DK Jungke Beat got the boot.

  • Gradius V is one of the few Treasure games I've never played.  Had it for ages but never took the the shrink wrap off, then sold it with all my PS2 stuff.

Star Wars Arcade....the one that was ported to 32X?

Shame you never played Gradius V :(

Star Wars Arcade I meant the original Atari one, didn't occur to me about the other one.

I like to think I have varied taste but re-reviewing my list my love of shmups and SEGA is more apparent than I realised.
  • Heh, the Atari one makes far more sense.  Never played it myself but it wouldn't have raised an eyebrow on a 100 list.  I got a lot out of the Sega one, but I don't doubt that it was always a bit crap.

Played the hell out of it as a kid, great game.

Played a refurb a few years back at a Star Wars show and was massively disappointed. Where they had refurbished the yoke they hadnt got it right, it feel off and consequently wasnt fun to play at all :(
  • Gradius V is superb. It's no Contra Shattered Soldier though.

Good to see some Kaboom! love in that list @wonderbanana

Gradius V is indeed great. Was the reason (along with RType Final) I got a PS2.

Think I played RType Final more though.

Kaboom is superb, even years later I'd dig the old Atari out of the loft just to play it.

Me too. I still have my 2600 set up. I have a 60Hz version of it running- noticeably faster than the PAL version.

sold my 80s Woody and games around '86-7 - supposedly to go toward an 8bit micro but pissed it up against a wall.

Rebought a woody off eBay several years ago for a decent price. In lovely condition. Even have 2 pairs of paddles now.

Have a Harmony cart though which is the bees knees as it lets me play any ROM - why I have a PAL60 version of Kaboom!.

Have a few 2600 games in my 100 - Kaboom and Super Breakout are in there. Maybe Warlords and Surround too.

  • Super Mario Odyssey goes in.  Great game, but not the best Mario (maybe third or fourth) let alone troubling my bestest/top10 list.

Enetered alongside 64 so didn't boot anything out.

  • Today's the day. It's finished.

100 mini reviews done in, I think, 103 nights.

Will probably spend a bit of time reading through and tidying some up - it was hard to think what to say in some cases - but overall feels like quite an achievement, even if no one reads it. Over 25,000 words, which is getting on for a small book.

It's all spread over 3 posts on the previous page BTW.
  • Well I ain't going back a page to read it if you're too lazy to quote it on this page. Think of someone other than yourself for once, Jon. Me me me all we hear from you these days.
  • That's it. I'm going home and taking my words with me.

Funny. I was thinking about my 2 parter and how, with some work , it could become at least an article on some website, the editor of which wouldn't know any better.

    Xx
  • I do enjoy reading about the seismic gaming events of Dark Souls/Bloodborne, but I'm still 95% sure I wouldn't enjoy playing them.
  • Have you tried? (I promise not to go one about it, but the opening sections, basically the first 2 obvious bosses in dark souls, are a pretty good indication of what's to come. If you get to the gargs and hate it, then fair enough I reckon.)

Judging how much play time that is hard, been so long since I did it first time.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Gargoyles are a long old play first time. I reckon up to 10 hours.
It is hard to judge now though, its maybe an hour or so for me now, probably a lot less for others.
