Yeah, if 2016's missed anything it's been a major Nintendo presence. Not sure I'll be interested in their output again, but it's always good to have that other option.
Switch at some point.
There are probably some games in development I have forgotten about or haven't been announced yet.
A lot of what got people's juices flowing this year and going into next year aren't my thing really.
I think most of the really big games got released this year and last, the definitive franchise sequels and stuff. Next year is less firm in my mind, bar the Switch and Horizon.
I hope Scalebound lives up to the strong legacy Kamiya has, and I am glad it has been pushed back. I wouldn't expect him to release something less than spectacular, but what we've seen is fairly ropey in places. That said, the warping, action style combat in FF is a treat, and I expect him to top that for precision and execution.
Other than that, I suspect a decent round of indies to burst forth as ever, but I tend to lose track of those until they are out, also early access blurs the line. I'll say at the very least that I am excited for Jalopy and Subnautica to be finished properly.
In terms of big games, just Mass Effect Andromeda. Even that I'm not expecting greatness from.
I've barely played games from this year but I've got some time coming up and made a list of a few I want to crank through. They're nearly all indie or small games that are supposed to be great. Probably the best from 2017 will be similar ones that you haven't seen coming.
Although the Switch and (probably) a Vive are going to be buys in 2017.
Halo Wars 2, Xbox Scorpio, Nintendo Switch and Zelda:BOTW, Mass Effect Andromeda, RESI 7,Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Cuphead, Red Dead 2, Crackdown, DESTINY 2....that's off the top of my head.
2016 hasn't been that great for me, I've gotten really contrary in my choice of game recently and only managed to complete Dark Souls 3, The Division and the Destiny expansions this year. I find the older I'm getting the less willing I am to sit through an uninspiring game for the sake of it.
In 2017 I am looking forward to:
Destiny 2
Sea of Thieves
Conan Exiles
Mass Effect
Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Nioh
Torment: Tides of Numenera
