It set me pondering. Some of us here have long memories. How many games have you bought over the lifetime of a console? Or each console? Let’s go with full price ‘proper’ games. Not DLC, not small online titles. I don’t care whether they’re bought digitally or physically, but I’m thinking things like Forza count, whereas things like Geometry Wars don’t.

I mean … I probably had a few hundred Spectrum games. Well over a thousand on the Atari ST, but most of those were pirated. Still, I probably had 50+ paid-for ST games.

Consoles are a different matter though. Prices rose a lot. Games got bigger.

I’m estimating here, because my memory ain’t 100%. And I’m only going to list the ones I can actually vaguely remember, so I’m omitting things like the Atari VCS which were really my Dad’s toys and not mine.

Playstation
Probably around 20 games, I reckon.

Game Boy
Eight or nine, maybe?

Game Boy Advance
10 or so.

Dreamcast
Eight-ish.

Gamecube
Seven. Definitely seven.

PS2
Not many. Five?

Xbox 360
Probably only seven or eight.

Wii
Three.

PS3
Two. I only bought two games for the PS3.

Xbox One
Four games, so far.

I realise I’m away at the ‘hardly buys any games’ end of the spectrum. I wouldn’t have thought that few, until I stopped to think about it and write a list. I’ve surprised myself.

Fair point. I didn’t think this through.

If you want to join in, interpret the rules however you wish. I just wondered how purchase patterns vary across the Badgersphere.

Jesus, I think I had over 200 for just PS3 and 360 at some point before I chopped them all in... less these days though.

I still have hundreds of psp/ps2 games in the loft.

Ha! That’s the whole point though. I figure there are folk like me, buying a max of 10 big games per console … and then the likes of you buying, er, a lot more. I think that’s kind of an interesting thing to look at. Seeing how different our habits are.

Around here, I assume it’s me that’s the outlier. I still consider myself a gamer, despite it not being a major part of my daily life.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Too easy to just think that everyone does what you yourself do.

I used to literally buy up any game that got good reviews. That was say PS2 era. Nowadays, by which I mean last 2 years and will be going forward, it's probably less than 10 or around that per year spread across the systems.

I had a Vita and I had two N-Gages, but I didn’t buy a single game for those. They were free, I didn’t like ’em much, so I sold them on without using them.

Master System: 20-25
Megadrive: 35
32X: 4
Saturn: 20-25
Playstation: <10
Dreamcast: 30
GBA: Up to 76 now, probably 10-12 at the time.
PS2: 10-15
Gamecube: <10
Xbox: 15-20
Xbox 360: 15-20
PS3: 10-12
Wii: 10-12
DS: 5
Wii U: 5. 7 if you count the two that came with it.
PS4: 7
Xbox One: 2

I'm much more selective than I used to be. Also, as my circle of gaming friends grew we swapped and lent games to one another, so while the number I owned dropped the number I played probably remained fairly static.

Most I've owned was on my C64 and Amiga. Think my brother and I got up to about 200 games on each system.

SNES/Megadrive/Gameboy/N64/Gamecube/PSone/Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox, between 10-20 games per system.

Xbox 360 saw me go on a bit of a gaming rampage (for me), I think I got up to about 50 games.

Currently have an XboxOne with about 12 games and a few 360 titles I didn't want to part with.

On SNES/MD/PS1 around about 50 each, I think It's diminished since then. I'd guess about 20 retail games on the 360 and probably nearly that many on PS4, but those have been supplemented with a similar number of indie/download only games.

As to what Jon said, my AAA attach date is fairly low because I often trade games in unless they're ones that have a special attachment (most recent entry to that camp is CARBOIS 2016) - however it's difficult to know how to measure attach rate now. Does my attach rate go up if I trade something in for another new title?If it's PS Plus Titles/GWG included, my attach rate is huge. Where also to things like Resogun sit?

If attach rate only includes kept games (not trade ins or selling) then I guess my recent numbers would be lower. I only have about 8 360 games left. I've had to buy more digital stuff on PS4 though.

GameCube - 20
Dreamcast - 15
PS1 - 8
PS2 - 8
PS3 - 12 loads on plus
Xbox - 15
Xbox 360 - shit loads got to be 30 or more
PS4 - a lot so far. At least 20
Vita - 4 most are Plus
GameGear - 4
Gameboy - 4
DS - 6
3DS - 12

Kinda think it’s interesting even to compare/contrast with music and movies.

I have a couple of thousand albums on CD. That’s a high attach rate for the humble CD player.

I probably have 20 or so Blu-Rays. Lesser attach rate for that, then.

CD's I never got about around 200
DVD's I probably had more.
By the time I got into Blu Ray I was conserving digital more so hardly have any.
I have 118 movies on iTunes plus Band of Brothers purchased as my only TV show.

11 Vita (some being Jap games like Gradiusburst and Puyo Puyo Tetris)
