There are enough of us on here that love music and our tastes are diverse enough to get some excellent recommendations, whether old or new. I know I still have massive gaps in my listening that I am keen to fill.

So, hopefully this is the thread for that. With that in mind...

    1) Ideally your choice should be on Spotify, Google Music or other popular streaming services.
    2) If you can provide a bit of information about your selection and a list of standout tracks for those short of time, that would be great.
    3) This isn't supposed to be a 'your taste in music is shit' thread. Different strokes for different folks.

So, if you're interested, pop a post below. There's no real organised structure to the thread, nobody has to listen to everything. There aren't orders or time limits on anything. If you have an idea that might make this run better (and not sink like a stone in two months), make your voice be heard.

  • Ah music suggestion threads. There's gotta be a graveyard of them at the bottom of the thread list.

I do like getting new music suggestions though so will check in.

I've been listening to a but of Confidence Man lately. Australian electronic pop type stuff. They were lots of fun live and are good party type music. They have a few songs on Spotify.
  • As I'm playing Persona 4 Golden on Vita at the moment, must say soundtrack is amazing. I like just sitting there listening. As a result, I think my playtime is a bit off. Real playtime is a lot lower than what it says, I imagine!

  • Best way I found of hearing new music is to get some radio on the phone and then hope something cool comes up.

At the moment I'm listening to a lot of Mitch Murder and Miami Nights 1984 on Spotify. 80s Synth Wave inspired originally from my first viewing of Drive. Would highly recommend them if you're anyway interested in the genre. I have a huge range of musical tastes. Everything from the above, to Metal (proper metal not modern metal).

Would also highly recommend Thin Lizy to any old school rock fans. If you've never gave them a listen you're missing out.

Cant stop listening to Tommy Tutone this morning

Driving rhythm, nice chord progression and more hooks than a cloakroom, very difficult song to put down, thinking that Stock, Aitken and Waterman's pop factory cribbed a lot of notes from stuff like this. Shame they were a one hit wonder, but imo what a bloody hit

Kenny Loggins and Huey Lewis get all the love for this kinda sound, but these guys deserve some too

My sister-in-law gave me this roughly 12 years ago.  She worked in the Red Cross shop in Lewisham, and this had been in the 50p bargain bin for so long it got moved to the actual bin (along with a Sneaker Pimps and a Porno for Pyros album, for those who want the full details).  I wasn't expecting much, hasn't even heard of them, but no prizes for guessing where this is going - it's great.  I think Shane Meadows has a thing for them as they've popped up on his soundtracks a few times.  It's a tricky album to describe, but I'll have a go - it's a chiefly acoustic britpop/folksy effort that rocks on occasion, with more than a hint of Americana and some early Beth Orton-y florishes chucked in for good measure.  It also sounds fantastic through a good pair of headphones, and unlike some of my other favourites from the era, it's not something I've managed to wear out over the years.

Not sure it's on Spotify etc, but here's a Youtube link.

And the first track that made it start to stand out for me:

  • I may be being dense, but I'm struggling to see how this thread is different (enough) to the regular thread.

I want to join in, and I like our various music threads, I'm just confused as to the USP.

    Help me.
I'm still great and you still love it.

I think those that have posted so far have missed the point somewhat (which I have obviously spectacularly failed on).

It's supposed to be more like the old album listening thread that people then make comment on/talk about.

The less structure bit is more that people don't have designated turns/time slots.

  • No entertainment matters in 2017.
  • Rather oddly I've also been listening to Jenny lately. I can't remember why either.

Skerret's posting is ok to trip balls to and read just to experience the ambience but don't expect any content.

  • I download the entire years worth of radio 1 essential mixes and listen to that. It takes awhile to through. Otherwise it's the random hits on of the day of Spotify free as missus don't like dance music.

I guess the closest I get to pop music nowadays is stealing the DMC cutups and mashups compilations. Can be a double edged sword though, often find something I like then the original is nothing like it

Where do you get the essential mixes?

  • I have mostly been listening to the soundtrack to the hit(?) motion picture, starring Tom Cruise, Cocktail.
Obviously the best track is Tutti Frutti by Little Richard but this also seems to appeal.
  • Kokomo is the one I remember best.
  • Yeah, that's one of the big hits on there, I like the bit where they name the places and hate the rest of it.
  • Castlevania is still the best.

I only discovered Kokomo and later Beach Boys (from real early stuff and non-Pet Sounds) quite late in life, and Kokomo is really a little treat. Then I discovered Love and Mercy and oh my what a lovely song.
