I'll be honest, as much as I love Uncharted 2, its story is a bit rubbish. Wasn't a problem for me because it was a natural fit for the gameplay, but the subsequent investment in Drake as a narrativeman...
U2's story had to be flimsy to gel with its action, and I know that many of you agree on the series' increasing problems with narrative-fed non sequiturs. To give Drake some real weight you'd have to modify the game quite heavily, forcing an either-or choice between story and action. That's the crux of my point. -

Surely "gameplay is more important than narrative" doesn't need to equate to "thou shalt order games' quality by referring to their gameplay only; it is the sole metric of interest".
Even if it's weighting makes it more important, a game with way better narrative and only slightly worse gameplay is worth considering. It's not a 1D landscape.
What were the four categories mags used to have? Gameplay, graphics, sound, story? Each out of 10 for a score out of 40? I mean a nonsense but still... -

I think your conflating the famitsu scoring (four personal scores out of ten for a total). I don't think uk mags ever did a sum of various parts.
I used to like in the Nintendo Magszine review they used to tell you what each button did. -
