Just to say I love this. So far the best offering this month on Game Pass. I am utterly useless, but I have just had my best run, lasting beyond day XV.
Will have to read through this to take some hints in. Funniest game was the second when I didn't know the portal could randomly spawn and built up the right hand side only for them to stroll in on the left!!
i played a bit of this (two crowns) via game pass over chrimbo. initially i really liked the simple mechanics, but then got frustrated by it and after a couple of restarts went right off it.
What went wrong on the restarts? I'm now a fair way in and see what they've done.
I'd call it a great starting point now for new players. They've smoothed out the progress.
Although I maybe wrong as I'm not sure what's happening early for folks around dying. Maybe they're only seeing the same rudimentary bits.
For those who've knowledge of the first couple, it's easy to progress to next area, while seeing hints of what's to come.
Spoiler:
The map is now an actual pertinent thing. Having been through two areas, I've gone back to the starting area and unlocked a winged beast of some sort. Allows you to stand and do massive wing flaps to keep bad guys away from your wall.
Discovered in true kingdom accidental style.
Its those little things that really make it.
Unlocking all the different building upgrades is spread across areas too.
New soldier class is excellent. They have long Spears and stab through wall at night and fish during the day
.
Pace is still glacial.
Graphics are refined but the same. A touch more detail in trees and water and the background and weather effects are a little more purdy.
Basically just kept getting stuck with no money and nobody earning any, and at that point the only option is to start again. Subsequent goes i seemed to hit that wall even sooner...no doubt due to me trying to expand too quick. Perhaps I was doing it wrong focusing on building ever bigger bases rather than just hopping to other islands asap, but then the absolute lack of any instructions doesn't help there. initially i thought it was interesting working stuff out yourself but then just got miffed at wasting resources working stuff out as I went.
I guess it's the 'rogue-like' nature of the game, it's not really my thing. I don't mind dying/learning as you go so much, but with this the lack of tactical options, the inability to sell something or re-assign a role etc., means that one wrong move and you have to start your game again from scratch to change it.
