  • The Splatoon ones were just an hour each slot.

Seems odd to not let us tutorial the controls before the test. With Splatoon it was safe to assume that most people know how to FPS, but this is different.

Thought there were hour long sessions too. Glad I can jump in on Friday already, as I'm not sure if I get the chance to have a look in the weekend.
  • The edge article seems to imply that there's less control if you don't motion control

Splatoon had great motion controls that were actually quite unusual and took a little practice to shine through. I'm presuming this is just server testing but who knows with Nintendo.
  • It is purely server testing, but you'd think you'd want potential customers to get the best experience.
  • Well on board for this. Great way to start my bank holiday weekend. Feel as though this is the sort of game that would benefit from me inventing an intense rivalry with one of you for its duration. Maybe I'll draw names out of a hat.

Thanks, all went fairly smoothly (apart from the fact that my passport doesn't have my married name on it, so there was a bit of confusion and computer says no situation) and I passed the written test. Was nervous as I'm still not too used to using feet and miles.

1,5h to get ready for this ARMS thing, really curious to how it plays.

Seems fun, I'm losing though. But I'm used to that
  • Oh, I hope they include the option to reconfigure the buttons in the final game. I doubt it, though.

Advantage of motion controls is evidently bending punches in opposite directions at the same time.

Need to work out tactics against heavies just spamming their attacks.

    Fun.

    Yep, definitely fun.

Would be nice to have a bit more SP punch bag options, wouldn't have minded a bit more time to adjust to the controls. I have a bit of a bad habit in games to spam buttons too quickly, and that doesn't get you anywhere here.

Had a nice fight with springman against a ninja, he was winning, but I managed to come back (partly thanks to a healing potion I think) and when we where both in the low red, managed to avoid his rush, countered that with mine and had just enough hits connect to win. If I'd stand a bit further behind I wouldn't have made that.

Had a perfect as well, felt nice.

Springman and ninjaman are favourites so far, min min makes me too hungry.

Can you launch punches with buttons?

Left stick to move, triggers to throw left and right punches, and motion to aim them?

3 one hour windows per day? I may have to pass on the testpunch.

    But I'll still preorder...

As it stands, you move with the left stick, jump is X, dash is Y, left punch is B, right punch is A, block is L3. I'd much prefer to swap Y and B, shift block to a shoulder button, and a whole other button to throw. I think they've got it as A and B because you have to hit them at exactly the right time to throw. I often found myself throwing a swift 1-2 instead of a throw.

It's worth noting, folks, that the controls say that the up button is switch target. Before I saw that, though, I found that clicking the right stick towards a character shifted my focus onto them.

Doesn't matter. Had a 15min sesh, and built up a 5 game win streak. It's excellent. Undoubtedly fun, but unusual.

The demo is rather eclectic too, which meant that I was thrown into online fights, before I could fully work out the controls, but once you get the basics down, it's satisfying.

I don't understand how the 3 player melee matches work, but everything else in the demo is butter.

Really like how the motion controls work.

    It's refreshingly functional.

The only problem I had was in mixing up left and right joycons, and occasionally finding it hard to remember where the tiny lz and rz triggers are.
