Bodyshots happen all the damn time in ufc, knees, punches etc. I don't get how boxing is more draining than being repeatedly twatted on every part of your body for 25 minutes plus the ground game.

Because you're not allowed to go down while the other guy's leaning on you (or clinching), and unlike wrestling where you can relax and use your opponent's force against them at times, you constantly have to fight against where they're trying to manoeuvre you. It's a bit like gloved judo with punches, or one of those wrestling styles where you lose if you touchdown. Punches to the body are also commonplace and not sparingly used.

Not that wrestling isn't massively tiring, but the first thing you learn is to not apply too much pressure if you can be turned. Interestingly, grappling's a sort of gentlemen's agreement in boxing, where it's mutually agreed in most cases that it's best-avoided if it tires both equally, since that doesn't help the goal of winning with punches. A lot of the tolerance for this is down to the ref, not the rulebook.

It's McGregor's best bet, as it goes. If he's allowed to spend two minutes of each round grappling, he might as well.

Your second point's accurate, sadly. I much prefer boxing as a sport (I don't much care for the rudimentary, albeit highly refined bashings of UFC), but ongoing avoidance in boxing is one of the main reasons for UFC becoming so popular in contrast.

This Davis chap on the undercard makes McGregor look like a model of humility.

Lots of "Conor didn't embarrass himself" going around at the mo and, while true in a way, it implies he put up a good fight or some form of competition- he didn't.

Mayweather did what he always does against unknown quantities. Boxes on the back foot for a bit, knowing that he can afford to lose early rounds on points, and then slowly and with unnerving accuracy take his opponent apart.

A slow, rusty 40 year old Mayweather absolutely schooled McGregor and he was only standing that late into the match because Mayweather decided to wait that long to ensure the result and not get surprised.

This was a joke and anyone who thinks that this in some way proves an MMA fighter could hold his own near the top ranks of boxing is a fool. Mcgregor was one of the best they had and he was on the losing end as soon as the match started - he just didn't know it.

I know fuck all about profighting and it was starkly apparent that Mayweather never lost control of game anyway.
