  • I saw the Bellrays in Glasgow a bunch of times ‘back in the day’. She was a real powerhouse vocalist live.
  • Aye, she's got a fair set of pipes on her.

I just discovered https://www.theredhandfiles.com/#, where Nick Cave answers questions from fans. I guess it ties in with his current speaking tour. He gives great answers to questions, very open and honest, ranging from his relationship with Warren Ellis to his gigs in Israel. It's a great insight into the guy, who for my money is second only to Cohen as a songwriter, and shows just how great he is with the written word.
  • Prince -Emancipation

Given his lack of quality control in later years over a single disc the breadth and quality on this triple cd set is amazing.
I like to think I'm a CAN DO kind of guy...
And the number of cans I can normally do is 12.
  • Cos he's free, to do what he wants to.

Some of his best covers, certainly.
  • And some fine guitar work.

He's an incredible writer in his own right.  I think the first of those that I read, was the one about Arthur - but what's impressive is that he handles almost all the questions with the same level of honesty, thoughtfulness and humour.

I must get Skeleton Tree on the go again. Such a fantastic and profound album.

Absolutely.  I’m assuming you’ve seen One More Time With Feeling?  If not you’re welcome to borrow a copy, as it’s an almost perfect companion piece to the record.

Yup, an excellent film, not what I was expecting at all.
  • Reddit delivered yesterday.

"Let me tell you, when yung Rouj had his Senna and Mansell Scalextric, Frank was the goddamn Professor X of F1."
  • That’s amazing - though it makes me feel bad that my kids can’t just nonchalantly knock out a Slayer cover.
  • Was passing Tickets Scotland in the town today, so popped in and got a ticket for Viagra Boys Glasgow gig at The Hug & Pint this coming May.

Bargaintastic £9 + booking fee. Busy time of the year for me unfortunately, but I don't want to miss this.
Funny thing was, it took the guy in the shop a good ten minutes to find the gig on his computer because some fuckwit has listed them as V**gra Boys in their system.

Anyhoo, just to celebrate, here's another cracking live set...

  • Any Vic Chesnutt fans on here?  I had an album in an album club at work a few years ago and I've always intended to delve a bit deeper.  Every time I dig it out I'm impressed (Is the Actor Happy?).  One for Tempy or Tin maybe.

Was hoping for some pointers on where to go next.

One more, because it's such a shiny delight:

I'll have a good listen to that when I get home tonight. I've heard of him, but I'm embarrassed to admit I've not actually heard any of his music. I've meant to for some time - I know Kristin Hersh wrote an entire book about him, which in keeping with the rest of this  somewhat redundant post, I've not read either...

So yes, thanks for the reminder, I shall be listening later.
  • Just had a Tiny Desk performance on at work, quite an introduction by Robin Hilton (Producer, All Songs Considered): "If I could only have five albums to listen to for the rest of my life I think at least two of them would be by Vic".

Hersh does one of his on a charity I bought at some point:

  • The new Broken Bells choon isn't really a banger. Shame.

I imagine their luck with email send outs wouldn't fair better, heading straight to spam. Anyway, have a great one g. I'm almost certain you will.

  • Aye Vic Chesnutt is great. I can only assume it was Mark and/or Lard got me interested originally.

To that list I'm definitely adding Crimson and Clover btw.
  • Last years Kero Kero Bonito album wasn't what a lot of fans wanted, but I've been listening to it today and been enjoying it's mix of J-Rock and videogame music influenced nonsense

  • The_Hold_Steady_-_Separation_Sunday_cover.jpg

Revisited this on the dog walk last night, which led to further listening this morning.  There was a point where they were the best band in the world, managed to see them a few times in what might've been their live prime.  Their first album was great, the third one was the place where I joined in, but Separation Sunday, their second record, is an all-timer for me.  Comfortably top 5 ever, I think it's a front to back masterpiece.  They eventually lost their way a bit, but even the patchy albums have some good tracks.

...and in with a shout for my favourite ever closing track, which never sounds less than amazing when played at a decent volume:

  • Enjoying some Modest Mouse today.

I really should listen to this song at least once a day.

  • New Twilight Sad stuff being performed on KEXP from a few weeks back. Album due in a few days.

First track has a real New Order vibe.

DiS gave it a top score. Might give it a listen but find them a bit dreary personally.
  • Dour, not dreary.
  • New Sharon Van Etten stuff sounding choice too

AH liked me some SVE since seeing her live some years back so this is GOOD NEWS
Skerret's posting is ok to trip balls to and read just to experience the ambience but don't expect any content.
