META QUEST - Stand Alone VR
  • An update allows custom tracks doesn't it? I'm sure there's a level editor now.

    Edit: not on Quest apparently.

Currently the family fave by a mile. Are you playing custom loaded tracks? It makes the game exponentially better. So busy at work ATM, but will post a 'how-to' link later that actually works.
that would be great, im a mac man so i might have to borrow a pc to get it done.

I've not been this excited for a piece of hardware since getting my 360 years back.

I spent most of yesterday evening trying to get custom tracks on but to no avail. The supposedly super easy way using Sidequest didn't work. I eventually think it's because my Mac OS is too old. I think the most common other way requires PC. So please let me know if there's another Mac friendly way to go about this. Happy enough with what's there at the moment but it would be amazing to fill it up with custom tracks.

Hey Scout, the tutorial below mentions a Side Quest for Mac download. I've wasted what must be hours trying to get custom tunes going, but followed this (coke'd up?) guy's instructions to the word and it definitely worked for me - on a PC.

    And I'm an idiot.

    Woop! It's scarily addictive Panty.

  • It's here.
I've gone through the setup and had a play in the tutorial room.
That was one of the most profoundly delightful experiences I've ever had gaming.
Batteries are low so I haven't got any further but that was amazing.

Panty, you're going to love Vader Immortal.

    Hair tips
In setting up, don't use 'teleport' to move around, just using the joystick gives a more immersive experience.

Now this next bit is going to sound silly, but when walking in game - move your feet up and down to reduce any motion sickness.

    Bon voyage!

    We need video of this.
  • Getting a bit motion sick from the menus, oddly enough. Didn't get any sickness at all when lpaying the demo room for about 30mins.
Give it a rest and I'll go again tomorrow.

Vader, space pirate and beat saber purchased.

    VR pornhub has been sampled...

Cheers hair. I think I've tried all that already but will give it another go tonight.
  • Also I tried Rec Room last night and pretty much had no idea what was going on. Then someone in the room called someone the N word and that was enough of that.

I find some of these social places fascinating but whenever I venture I'm instantly reminded why I don't bother. It's like the Big Screen app. It's a really cool idea but just not for me. Tried it last night and I'm sitting in a cinema watching a lo-res rip of Avatar with a Turkish guy sitting beside me who turns and says "hey man, I'm really drunk..."

  • Is this going to last? As much as I want a full-on £2000 setup to purely play Elite, this sounds incredible for most other experiences, party play, and general fun. Is is still going to be grabbing new games/experiences in a year? I mean, a year at first with things like the Oculus Apollo 13 experience is totally worth it, but I want to know what I’m looking at here.

It's a good question. Could be a fad but Zuckerberg seems to be placing a pile of chips on this not failing.

Inflated prices by Amazon resellers aside, this appears to keep selling out everywhere which should be an encouraging sign to developers.

Personal longevity is unknown, the Switch and I parted company after a year of sporadic use and don't miss it a bit. You'd have to pry The Quest from my cold, dead hand, then again it's only been under a month...

The first time I did this on the Rift I was blown away. The solidity of the environment, the little interactions (everyone picked up a can and tried to drink right?) and the robot personality was amazing. The missus was equally amazed and she isn’t really impressed with tech.

You could get away with £1200, and you'll also have an amazing rig for PC gaming, and PC gaming so best.

I'd wait until Index comes out, which is in a few days. Proper reviews will go up but more importantly, games will start being announced. Then you'll have a more informed choice.

  • Ok, I have a big session on this today, after yesterday I got really queasy and it stayed with me all night, so I was a bit apprehensive about trying again Tbh.
I didn't want to sell this amazing thing because it made me ill.

But 2hrs later, no ill effects at all.
It must've been down to the giant VR lady burger in my face yesterday.

Vader Immortal complete - holy shit. The opening, standing on that bridge with the sense of solidity and just fucking being there. Amazing. No need to go to Star Wars Disney now. I've probably saved myself a few grand in the long run.
I kind of ruined it by trying boop Vaders buttons during his big reveal. It would've been great if he reacted to it, I probably would've shit my pants.

Beat Sabre, could be brilliant, I hope I can get the custom tracks thing working, but I'll have to wait until I get a new Mac.

Space Pirate Training - good but shallow experience, I'll probably play it a lot tho.

Any other suggestions? Amazing looking things on the horizon?
That John Wick game could be a must have when/if it comes out.

  • Even trawlermen get used to it. The more you play the less sick you'll feel, but always stop for the day as soon as you feel queazy.
"Plus he wore shorts like a total cunt" - Bob
  • If you fancy a change of pace I'd certainly suggest Wander. It's about as close as we've got at the moment to Google Earth VR. It's basically Street View in VR. Not quite as spectacular as GE but still rather awesome. Remember the refund system is pretty good. If you try something and don't like it they'll refund. At first I think it was if you'd used the app for less than 2 hours but I think now (after people blasting through Vader then asking for a refund) they've dropped it down to 30 mins.
  • After my sicky experience I'm a little reluctant to mess with something not tailor made from the ground up for it.

This might be an odd question but twice I've played it now and I've been ravenously hungry afterwards, is anyone else experiencing this?
    Live= sgt pantyfire    PSN= pantyfire
  • Yeah Wander’s good, I revisited some of the streets I used to know in Thailand on it. Absolutely canes the battery though.

Panty, Moss looks like a sit & chill game that may be a welcome change of pace and one that's on my list.

Then there's the horror house stuff Face Your Fears & an Exorcist experience.

With the refund system, you can sample whatever you fancy. Takes a few days to credit you back though.

Really fancy one of these. Wasn't that impressed by the quality of PSVR, is this more betterer?

If I did buy one I'd have to somehow convince Mrs Pea that it was a £50 jobbie from Rumbelows.
