    The handling, The AI the Tracks, The cars.. all perfect. Brilliant game.

  • Heh, I was going to post about the AI today after their behaviour yesterday during my session. It is good AI, behaves believably (and unbelievably!) must of the time and provides a challenge, albeit assisted by rubber banding.

    Into the Pro Internationals yesterday and their aggression level seemed to step up from quite firm to blindly suicidal. I had to do many restarts due to the events having multiple races, with six laps each. I was frequently DNFing on the first lap, mainly through the AI driving like complete tools in front and causing multiple pile ups or veering wildly across the track taking out anyone foolhardy enough to attempt a pass. As much as it frustrated, it entertained too for the sheer crazyness of it.

    Wait until you get to the world events. I'm lucky to last half a race if if going for the stars for spinning etc. Had some mental tense races, limping home with a sliver of health. It's awesome.
  • It ends up playing out like a survival horror. Limping home with a few damage points left, mangled corpses littering the track, rabid zombie cars snapping at your heels.

    I'm mainly aiming to knock off the events and will go back for the objectives later. Winning the event and trying to wreck others doesn't always go hand in hand.

  • I ended a race this morning with just me and one other AI still going.. it was like Mad Max whizzing through the burnt out wrecks.

    When you have to do the last three laps with critical damage but it's ok cos all the AI are DNF-ed.

    When that happens I like that there's a new challenge of dodging the burned out wrecks. Really I should slow down and pootle to the end, but that's no fun.
  • Hit the track with the, see minor spoiler, in last night and it was hilarious.. at first I thought there was no chance of making a 12 lapper intact especially when my car started to fall ... but the track design is amazing. Brought it home first out of two. When I've finished the career and looking forward to upping the AI a bit.

    What driving aids is everyone using? I've got everything off apart from half traction and auto gears.

  • Half everything and auto. Cockpit cam for races, chase cam for destruction derby. Realistic damage and amateur AI.

    Any idea if the AI affects the quality of their driving or just how much attention they pay to you? I found races a bit too easy but changed all the settings and upped the AI at the same time so not sure which is having the most impact.

    It feels about right for now, challenging with restarts sometimes required albeit mostly because the tail end decide to divert you into a wall/off the track at their own expense.

    Also, I've not played a huge amount of this but that track in Bob's spoiler is my favourite so far.
  • My first impression was that the AI only affected the car stats; the only difference I could see was in their acceleration and top speed. I think they’re just generally better drivers. They still ram you on the lower settings.

    I’ve got assists on half, automatic transition, realistic damage and expert AI.
  • I've gone everything set to half, automatic gears, chase cam, amateur ai and normal damage. I'm having so much fun with this game I haven't even tried most of the other settings.

    I'm not sure I have a favourite track as most of them offer something great in their own way but I will say the best track for watching replays is the mud track with the two long straights that looks like a dogs bone from above. The camera pans in such a way that you get to see all the carnage behind you as you race away down those treacherous bumpy straights.

    Yeah like I said, I'm having so much fun with it I haven't checked out some of the options. I just keep diving back in to the next race.

    I'll give realistic a go at some point. Sounds like it's gonna add another layer to the races.

  • There seems to be two systems in play as far as I can tell a numerical system from 100 like a health and then actual mechanical damage that effects the handling and performance.. works really well.

    Have added a huge bull bar to my mark 1 escort which, although dented it's handling, has significantly contributed towards it doing a lot more damage and remaining more robust.

    Also tricked out the Limo with all the strengthening kit last night, was great fun in the demolition derby. Was wrecking stuff left right and centre.

    Nah, it's not too much to handle. There's still room for bumping and grinding. I imagine it's what wipes out more of the field though, the ai can't handle it as much or it doesn't take into account the extra damage they're doing. I find it more fun.
