Remnant: From the Ashes (it's Dark Souls with Guns!)

So this came out two days ago. To a muted fanfare. Or maybe its arrival just went unnoticed due to the imminent Autumn Games Glut. Regardless, my interest was piqued due to the post-apocalyptic setting, which surprisingly, I never really tire of. The enemy design seems varied and interesting, the general environs, less so. I don't mind a good third person shooter (we're not overly blessed with them) And if it has decent loot and plenty of bag for yer buck, then it could satisfy that new game itch. Before the leaves start falling from the trees and we're swept away upon a tidal wave of video games. Only thing that dissuades me are the tales if rock hard bosses.

The game is scaled around MP when it comes to bosses currently, making them proper hard when solo, but I expect them to re-balance in the future. Its a fantastic game. -
I thought The Surge was Dark Souls with guns? -
If any game is DS with guns, it’s surely Bloodbourne. -
It's not massively Souls tbh. It's got a roll, but the world is procedually generated within reason. Its also got a hub.

Gone off this big time. Boss battles with swipe attacks that pass through the scenery you're taking cover behind whist minions spawn to harass you further? What is this, 1985?It wasn't until I hit my thirties that I realised you could unlock rewards by exploring the map

I was sortvof tempted by this - the Laymen review said it is possible to solo, though more fun in coop, but overall easier than most soulslikes.PSN : time_on_my_hands

I have a lot of time for Sterling but he plays up to it sometimes. He knows what side his bread is buttered and it doesnt always lead to the best of reviews (or Jimpressions as I assume this was).

Might wait until it goes on sale as there are many varying opinions on this. Plus there is some about the aesthetic and animation that just doesn't seem right to me. -

I must admit I gambled a bit on this because it feels like the makers actually put some real feeling into this. It’s clear this is gamepass candidate but I think they’d get more value if people bought it close to launch.

Started last night with a friend and it seems really good so far.
We didn't get that far but did make it to the first boss. Managed to down him with after 3 or 4 attempts. Had that satisfying learning curve going from getting pumped at the start to barely getting scratched after we'd done it a couple times.
Annoying that you have to go through a tutorial before you can play coop. Especially as there's nothing out of the ordinary, it was all basic souls stuff. -
I find that playing through the game the number of token mob enemies is too high and too frustrating. It’s almost like shite Mario maker design.

Four years later and the sequel is out. Seems to fix some problems with the original, but it's still really built around co-op and boss fights. Eurogamer seems to like it though:

Performance is lacklustre on PC. Games seems good though, music and VO pleasant.
