It fell on an ocean moon of Endor rather the forest moon we know from RotJ. That can't have been the complete DSII so it was probably a big smithereen.

The ewoks were on the 'forest moon', death star somehow landed on another moon...put it down to orbits and gravity i guess
Dunno how it managed to land with Windows intact and doors still working etc...

And why is Rey Palpatine's granddaughter? To one up The Last Jedi.

I'm reading into those with my own interpretation, of course, but still, it feels a little dull. Looking back at Rian Johnson talking about Rey being no one feels far more actually in tune with the world of Star Wars.

Johnson compared his decision to the Darth Vader revelation in The Empire Strikes Back. The reason the “I am your father” line resonates so strongly, he explained, is not just because it’s a surprise—but because it’s the “hardest possible thing that Luke, and hence the audience, could hear at that moment.”

“You’ve had a bad guy that you can hate, that you can project your shadow on to just cleanly—and he’s evil . . . With that one line, ‘I am your father,’ suddenly that easy answer gets taken away from you, and he’s something that our protagonist has a relationship to,” Johnson said.

By comparison, Rey learning that she was related to someone like Luke Skywalker would have been “the easiest thing she could possibly hear.”

“The hardest thing to hear is, ‘Nope, this is not gonna define you,’” Johnson added. “And, in fact, Kylo is gonna use this to try and undercut your confidence so you’ll feel you have to lean on him for your identity . . . you’re gonna have to make the choice to find your own identity in this story.”

Probably had Windows 7. Certainly wouldn't have been the case if it was vista or 8.

I mean, it really shows up the whole strategy from Disney doesn't it? It's like one kid was playing with his toys, went downstairs for some food and his brother snuck in the room and had his own game with them. The first brother comes back, kicks out the second and sets about arranging the toys in the 'proper' order.

Can't they put someone from the Marvel stuff on it? Even if only to outline the major plot and themes, they mostly had different directors and managed to get some consistency across multiple films. It has to be better than this mess.

No, this is exactly it. The toys being out of order and having to be refigured. It's exactly right.

And fuck sake the last Jedi was good.

It’s a big enough chunk that bits inside it remained intact. That and, y’know, it’s a film.

Excellent analogy! Yes it was poor. But the original ending was a joke. If you don't understand why the original ending of ME3 was utter Garbo, I can't help you.

I don't get it, the Last Jedi was a joke. Are you defending it because

  • Ok well, politely then, fuck off with your criticism of this film, because most people hated TLJ and commercial sense made Disney and JJ retcon it in this film. You got to enjoy TLJ, I got to feel like a pretentious hipster shat on my childhood dreams - we're even, aren't we?

  • Why didnt jj Abrams direct TLJ?

TLJ was aids, this film just about redeemed Rey and Kylo for me. Sadly Luke Skywalker forever just got depressed, then got tired and died. Thanks Sian, you so hip.

Honestly the best thing now is he's probably only doing Indies from now on. I quite liked looper.

Because Disney had Hired JJ to do the first, Johnson to do the second, and Colin Trevorrow to do the third.

Trevorrow's script treatment was considered unsatisfactory by Lucasfilm and re-writes happened. After that he left due to creative differences.

He's a terrible director IMO, so they did themselves a favour getting rid of them.
  • Shoulda hired Denis Villeneuve for the third.

  • Whilst I don’t like the direction TLJ took with the story and characters, it wasn’t a badly made movie. In fact, it is probably a better made movie than TRoS. I’m gonna rewatch TFA and TLJ this week before my second viewing of TRoS at the weekend and then decide the order I like them in.

I forgot about that. We could have had three very different takes of the same characters if they kept to their madcap plan. I'd love to have seen the gist of his script.

Did that happen as a result of TLJ?
  • hylian_elf wrote:

I don't think his style works for these films, at all.

Not having a coherent story treatment going in was always going to lead to some disappointment along the way - I think the people who like all three films are in the rarity. They should have either given it to one director, or do what Lucas did back in the day and write three scripts/treatment and then hand the execution off.

Treverrow leaving? Nah, Kasdan/Kennedy were clearly happy with the decisions made in TLJ or they wouldn't have let it happen - they got rid of Miller and Lord from Solo, so clearly Trevorrow's inability to make a good film was showing.

They hired him because Jurrasic World made infinite money, despite the fact it was dire.

Edit: forgot that Kennedy was the boots these days - she has been a vocal defender of The Last Jedi

Almost certainly, SJ was supposed to shit all over Luke Skywalker and the saga, and make is love it. There are ways to do that, of course (KOTOR 2 did it well, thanks to Kreia), but he fluffed it. It is an absolute joke of a film. It is so coarse and infantile (that casino scene, the bad guys make money by selling weapons lol).

The franchise nearly died. Solo tanked. This was fanservice to bring us back.

Star wars doesn't have legs anyways.

Although I think TFA is the best despite how close it sticks to ANH and safe it plays everything, having JJ start the trilogy with his ooooh, where could this lead bullshit. I enjoyed plenty of TLJ but there's definitely lots of wonky stuff in there, made even worse in context of the trilogy as a whole.

I'd go TFA>RoS>TLJ. Lots to like in all of them but lots of head scratching bullshit to go with it.
