The bosses weren't the problem, it was the Ring of Artorias (or lack thereof) that flummoxed most reviewers, as well as the Crystal Caves with those invisible walkways. Also, getting cursed during a run on the original release was pretty much a quit and restart. It had to be patched coz folk were getting rimmed lol. It was fucking brutal.
Man, I wish I'd been there for it all. We need more shit like that these days. The mystery and discovery of a new game. Nowadays, most of the secrets for a game are out there within hours of release, sometimes before. Miyazaki and From had the balls to seal off whole sections of their game and even halt all progress completely to all but the most committed of players. It makes me wish YouTube was never a thing for gaming... -
