Best (and Worst) Looking Console of All Time - PS5 could be a winner - The Bear and Badger

Seems as good a time as any. So what’s everyone’s favourite and least favourite looking console (home and handheld) of all time?

I’ll do a top 3 and bottom 3 list

So for the top list 1 is the best

For the bottom list 1 is the worst

Some reasoning why would be nice, but not required.

Top 3

1. Gamecube
2. UK/Japanese Super Nintendo
3. Dreamcast

Bottom 3

1. Xbox
2. US Super Nintendo
3. Playstation 3 OG

I think the Gamecube has to be one of my favourites, I even like the little ATI sticker for some reason. And yeah the PS5 is probably gonna be the worst for me.

Oooh I love the GBA, the SP and Micro also.

2. SEGA Megadrive JPN or Asia PAL variants, it looks pure evil and I like that.

3. Atari 2600 Woody. Classic design that has stood the test of time.

Everything after Dreamcast as been ugly imo, with the possible exception of the Wii stood vertically.

Anything with glossy plastic is automatically dreadful. I would like the Wii more if it wasn't for that. Most consoles are just kinda meh, only a few I think actually look genuinely good.

The PS2 has a sort of brutalist thing going on about it that appeals to me.

I don't think there is a single console I would describe as good looking. Either boring, retro or fugly.
There has yet to be a design icon like the iPod, Braun record player, Bush radio etc.

@GurtTractor I loved my US Snes, but it was bloody ugly.

I like the US SNES, still prefer the Japanese design but I like them both.

I also like the Mega Drive II, unfortunatley it just followed the best design ever.

The US SNES vs non-US SNES is interesting -

The left has these nice soft edges and an elegant curve to it, subtle grey tones and a splash of colour that matches the pad buttons. Nicely differentiated buttons that invite you to use them. Lovely stuff.

The right just looks awkwardly boxy and cheap. Sort of a bright off-white and naff purple + washed out purple. Overly large and toylike buttons. It's kind of shocking just how crap the US SNES looks in comparison (IMO of course).

At first I was like wtf but now I feel like it's so utterly mental that I actually kind of like it.

Pretty much all of the early Nintendo consoles stand up really well, they have this great retro chic thing about them.

Like the boxy NES looks like it would fit in perfectly as a film prop in a classic sci-fi movie.

None of the light grey, white or cream stuff ages well. Consoles in general don't look great after a bit of time. For all that they can be expensive at launch, there's never been a premium console in the way there are cameras, smartphones and audio equipment.
