  • LADS I love Skaven to pieces, they are the first army I collected, I read the Army Book from cover to cover until it was ragged. I'm just not sure they're represented well in Sigmar so far. Unles I get Dawn Spiresnd sell the Aelves, the starter box for them is Pestilens based, which I am not too into. I was always a Skyre and Eshin boy.

Got Hive for Christmas, something that I've always wanted but for some reason never bought for myself. Me and my bro in law are now locked in a grudge campaign that will probably run for years. Such a great game.

    I'm winning.

Also got Karuba, a game I've wanted for in law game nights. I've played it at club quite a bit and really enjoy it. Not much interaction, but good fun and very quick to to rattle through. One thing I can't figure out is why it comes with double the amount of wooden components that are needed??
  • Wut? There's four men and four temples for four players.
  • I put the eight pieces and card squares in separate bags for each player.

I might get a couple of mouse pads printed from Asda with the board on, so I can go up to 6 players.
  • Games played this Christmas so far have been OK Play, and Terror in Meeple City.  Both have been enjoyed by the whole family, though that's pretty much where the similarities end.

OK Play is very very simple, and was basically just a stocking filler.  It's a 2-4 player game (definitely best with 4) in which you take it in turns to place tiles on the table, trying to get 5 in a row, either in a straight line or diagonally.  That's pretty much it, although it rapidly proves to be a bit smarter and more tactical than you might imagine at first glance.  With 4 players it also rapidly becomes one of those games where people start to form alliances to stave off others, whilst simultaneously trying to get the upper hand themselves.  (Winners were often not the ones with the smartest strategy, so much as the ones people had stopped watching out for.) We ended up playing it for much longer than anyone had anticipated, with pretty much all ages.

Meeple City on the other hand requires quite a bit of setting up, and has a fair dollop of luck alongside the strategy.  You assemble a city, with floors of the buildings held up by several Meeples.  Each player then controls a monster, that rampages through the city, trashing the buildings and eating the Meeples.  (The game was originally based on Rampage, but somewhere along the way lost the license.)  Movement is by flicking wooden discs (paws) around the board, and destruction is carried out either by physically dropping your Monster onto buildings, flicking vehicles off their heads, or resting your chin on their heads and then blowing really hard.  (Seriously).  It's deeply unsophisticated, but also incredibly good fun, particularly when played with kids.  There's a little bit of nuance in there - each monster is allocated random "characters" and "powers" that confer bonuses based on who and what they eat, or adding additional power ups for fighting other monsters on the board, but it's mostly a very silly, pretty entertaining free for all...

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong - This is an excellent game.  Everyone has loved it and it has been the most requested this Christmas.  The first game can be confusing but once you get into the swing of it it's great.

Mrs Pea suggested we play Karuba and we ended up playing 6 games. I think she loves it. Result! Add this to Patchwork and Trambahn for Mrs Pea approved games.

    Just Googled D:MiHC. Looks cool.

So me and a mate are getting into Frostgrave. Had a practice game with rudimentary scenery and we both loved it. It's so fast and simple, but massive fun. Some great spell use going on, teleporting and catapulting archers up into towers etc.

Bought some official minis that I need to paint and assemble, and I'm starting to sort some terrain out. Managed to grab 21 snowy trees from the local garden centre, part of their Christmas model village range.

The club I attend is starting a campaign in the new year too, and have been building an amazing ruined city board to play on. Can't wait.

My partner likes both of the non trambahn games so I might give the latter a go.
  • Off to THE WARHAMMER place tomorrow

GF has decided on Seraphon, I am still wavering. Thinking of a Nurgle Warband because I think they lend themselves to the most interesting painting.

Aye mine too. Trambahn is basically Lost Cities with a bit more meat. Cracking little game.

Nurgle is best Chaos God, fact.

It's very good, and perfect for people who aren't used to playing games.  20 to 30 minutes tops for a game once you've learnt the ropes.
