Do Boardgames Dream of Miniature Porn?

To be honest I've gone completely cold turkey on boardgames lately, Mechs and Minions was my last purchase and that is unplayed.
My regular gaming pals have had a baby so they are in that newborn is the be all and end all of their lives phase.

It's not a case of be all and end all , it's the fact that you're knackered and can't be arsed to do anything for a few months .

Heh. I'm totally off vidyagames ATM, nothing luring me. I'm all over boardgames though. Playing twice a week at the moment.

Destiny could be a massive money sink, but it's all but out of stock at the moment. I've bought a fair few boosters from where I can with money in my PayPal from other games I've sold.

The two starter sets play great against one another. It's a million times better than dicemasters IMO. I like the LCG but much prefer this tbh. The games are quicker too so you can rattle through several in 2/3 hours. Having people to trade with helps too obviously.

And yeh, the dice are vile. But whatevs.

One thing that is better than something like Magic is you can only have 2 copies of a card. You don't really need more than one of each dice apart from characters, and even then they have a point cost for running with one or two dice. I've been lucky and managed to score elite (2 dice)Grievous, Padme and General Veers.

Still a potential money hole if you go deep though.

But meh, I rarely drink so I need at least one vice right?
  • Exactly. I am doing ok with my wee part time job so Warhammer is my outlet. Got my Blightkings in the post today so that's me fixed up for painting all February!

And from what I can gather, there's a collectible dice game for Star Wars. Anyone want to buy a kidney?

Fun but exasperating kit to put together. Because you can only make five, I had to make the champ, standard bearer and musician and thus couldn't make the two handed guys. So, I chopped up the scythe and gave it to the champion in a minor conversion, and messed around with some heads here and there. I now officially hate green stuff, and have cut the pad of my thumb with a craft knife.

Still, I want another box of BKs so I can make both the axe and scythe guy, as well as use the bell in the belly torso.

I'm working in manc, near Travelling Man. I hope they don't have boosters when I walk by.

    I secretly hope they do
  • I've used it a bunch, it takes like 5-7 coats to fill things properly, but it is fast drying and on the whole better than regular greenstuff for gap filling yes.

    That's a great model.

And yeah, I also swear by Liquid Green Stuff. For really big gaps (when kit-bashing and converting) I tend to use regular Green Stuff followed by Liquid, as it's just quicker than trying to 1,000 'coats' of LGS. I usually do three or four before I get inpatient to start the next stage of the model.

Yup, I didn't have regular green stuff when I was building my Plague Drones so they have some unseemly splits in the back as the LGS contracted overnight and I didn't realise how visible it would be after painting.

You can blag it because Nurgle. Just throw some Blood for the Blood God paint in there. ;) But if it really bothers you, you can LGS the gap again, wait for it to be dry, base coat it, and replicate the paint scheme. A bit of a faff but do-able.

  • They're SO PURPLE. That Chimera is really nice it terms of solid colour, how did you get that so vivid and consistent? Also I love the light on it too.

Is the terrain a GWs or yours?

Have you done any Frostgrave? I've a TON of terrain to get started on. MDF ruins for a start. I've no idea how to begin painting that shit. Well, I do, but I'm worried about clogging up the grooves between the bricks.

Yeah, I decided to go purple, rather than camo with Tyranid iconography, because I wanted to suggest this is an established cult that's had time to prepare. So much so they've painted all the vehicles in the sacred purple of the Star Saviour. It's why there's no battle damage on the vehicles, either, they've been kept in storage ready for the uprising. The fluff-within-the-paint-job goes further - it's why the dozer blade is a different type of metal and still has the hazard stripes on it. They've only just stolen it and attached it last minute before heading out to battle.

    Goddamn I'm a nerd.

As for the smoothness, it was two or three coats, applied in different directions, to make sure it didn't look patchy. Took a wee while.

The scenery belongs to my local gaming club.

I'd post more, but a lot of my projects have got roughly half done and then I've moved onto something else, so there's nothing really worth showing.

I've done the treasure tokens, and I've started on my two starter warbands, but they've got to the 'solid colours done, waiting for washes and highlights' stage and have stagnated.

I've just ordered some paved effect bases to use with my Secret Santa minis.

Wow. Posted my spare Destiny cards for trade on a FB group and a guy has PM'd me to send me a complete set of commons and uncommons! Apparently that's a common thing on the group, and they just ask that you pass any duplicates on to other new players.

    I'm speechless!
