Do Boardgames Dream of Miniature Porn?
  • How much were you thinking for it Tiger?

Only played it the once but it was good fun, loved the theme of it all.

Decided to pick up Pocket Hive and Unlock 2 yesterday. Looking forward to playing them over the next few weeks.

Been busy making terrain and fire markers for Gaslands starting this Friday. Still need a board, or at the very least a sand coloured cloth.

  • They do really good mousemat terrain sheets, but they're like £50 which might be a bit extreme. Bug fan of the old smoke making technique you've resurrected there! If you want to push the rust a bit further try getting some Typhus Corrosion from GW, it's a shade paint with texture in it that you can drybrush over later to do amazing rust effects!

I finished a new lad, I am going to hide him in here. I have called him "Catarrh Snotkins"

Had our first test game of Gaslands last night. What a great set of rules. It's one of those games that benefits from you adding flavour and the rules really help to create cinematic moments, as post apocalyptic car combat should have.

Some highlights include my mate firing rockets at one of my cars at close range which caused the driver to go beyond his stress threshold and flip his vehicle....into the car that fired rockets. The resulting collision caused my car to turn into a fast moving fireball and slam into another of my mates cars that was behind....and then explode causing MASSIVE damage.

I managed to set one of my mates cars on fire with my flamethrower and so the car that was now on fire spent several turns trying to avoid obstacles but also drive slow enough to put the fire out. It was working until the stress just got too much and he wiped out.....into the wreck of my car that had been destroyed by the rocket incident.

Just great stuff, got another game planned for tonight with an extra player. Probably a Death Race.... :D

  • Sounds pretty excellent to be honest, is it a fresh set of rules or adapted from something else?

New rules. The Facebook group is blowing up and really active.
  • Neat! I actually played AoS a few days back, first time in months. New Nurgle Battletome so abilities popping off left and right and I kept forgetting everything. We even have a wee dial we can turn every round to represent the cycle of corruption and decay.

I decided in a fit of mania to strip and repaint an old mini, quite happy with the result but feeling like I might want to redo the wounded flesh.

Hey, I just watched Death Race on TV and I thought about getting into Gaslands. It looks like a low bar from a miniatures painting perspective.

Wonder if i can rope a few mates in? Hmm.
It's a goddamn snoozefest out there.

Anyone played the card game Gloom? If so, any thoughts?
  • It's clever BUT IT REALLY REALLY relies on the people you are playing with to be imaginative and have a good sender of humour, you also need to be able to think on your feet.
So if the players are not the above then it's really flat.
Because of that it'll never be a good or great game in my opinion.

Thanks. I have some friends who would be good at this but not sure that I would myself... It is also expensive for a card game (even though the cards are transparent) so I'll give it a miss to buy I think.

£25 plus postage? Literally been played once.

I'd agree with this. I've had one brilliant game of Gloom and a few so-so games. It's absolutely wonderful with people who are reasonably creative and articulate and willing to buy into the idea, but it really is quite poor if you don't have people who 'get' it.
  • Bought this lovely ghost when I went for my interview with GW

Immediately regretted it because SPITECLAW'S SWARM is out for Shadespire, for £2.50 less than the damn ghost cost. But I thought i'd push myself with him, and also try and do a better more post-photo tinkering to make up for my shitty photo setup. I think it worked out.

Finally played a couple of games of Formula-D and had a lot of fun. Four of us played two single lap games using one car each with the basic rules, although changing the rule about rolling to see if adjacent cars damage your own to rolling to see if your car damages adjacent cars added to the enjoyment... There was a clear winner each time, which was a bit of a shame, but the chasing pack were close. I look forward to trying the advanced rules, having a longer race and/or running a team per player.
  • I've picked up a couple of games I've had my eye on for some time now, both via the boardgameprices newsletter.
Arkham Horror Card Game (£27 delivered), that at first glance of the rules looks incomprehensible but after watching a Rahdo run-through it looks easy to pick up.
    &
Inis (£38 delivered), which I've been tempted to get several times but it's always just been a little too expensive.

Painted my first Shadespire mini. Not as good as paint master Temps obvs, and I totally just followed the YouTube tutorial as I'm still learning, but I'm still really pleased with it. Probably the best thing I've painted tbh.

    aca4n.jpg

How you finding the game @Tempy? It's really taken off at our club (and all the game shops in Manc it seems, was rammed in Fanboy 3 last weekend). I'm really enjoying it.

Grabbed the skelebobs like you, have you tried them yet?

Element Games is the cheapest I've found stuff so far, popped in yesterday.
  • That's a lovely lovely Steelheart! You even did the undershirt in between the armour, I didn't bother for mine.

Sadly I've not played yet. The only person I could play with is Ev and she works a lot of evenings and has been playing Nier so we keep missing the chance to sit down together. That hasn't stopped me from almost impulse buying the Skaven team...

Just saw Brutality on Kickstarter. Medieval brawler for 2-4 players where you pick 2 heroes and the go ham on your opponents.

Looks good. $70 plus import, probably.
Is released July 2019 though so long term purchase.
It's a goddamn snoozefest out there.

It's really ticking all the boxes for me. Low mini count means painting is undaunting, the deck building is super simple but the game is pretty deep. Games are fast and always eventful.

Are elves still a thing in GW lore? There's none in Shadespire yet right?

  • Nope, current Shadespire roster is as follows
    [Names (Faction - unit type)]

Steelheart's Champions (Stromcast Eternals - Liberators)
Garrek's Reavers (Blades of Khorne - Blood Reavers)
    Ironskullz Boy's (Ironjawz - 'Ardboys)
The Sepulcharal Guard (Deathrattle - Skeleton Warriors)
Spiteclaw's Swarm (Skaven Clan Verminus - Clanrats)
The Chosen Axes (Fyreslayers - Vulkite Bezerkers)

    To be released:
???? (Stormcast Eternals - Vanguard Raptors)
???? (Blades of Khorne - Blood Warriors)

These two will be the inverse of their Starter Set guys I reckon - Vanguard Raptors are crossbow pistol wielding skirmishers, whereas Blood Warriors are triple hard khorne units.

Season 2 will bring Aelves I reckon, especially as they've just had a range update with the Daughters of Khaine, and the Idoneth Deepkin are the next army people expect to be launched (sea elves?) - Lizardmen were apparently mentioned at some GW event too.

OK that's enough lore - you might find this site useful if you don't know about it!, it list various decks, including ones people have used to place and win in tournaments! https://warhammerunderworlds.com/deck-guides/

I've no idea where GW are at with races/factions these days. I didn't know about the two to be released though. Cheers for the link, will have a look.

Can see myself getting a fair few factions, really enjoying painting at the moment.
