Wish I had the artistic talent to paint miniatures and stuff. Tried to get back into Advanced Heroquest a while ago (yes I know it's not a proper boardgame as such) but the ruleset has not aged well. Too many dungeon crawlers in the videogame world offering the real thing doesn't help either.

I now feel the need to lust after some 40k Titan dioramas now too....

Fuck the new rules, hopefully this will mean the originals will go cheap eventually

Utterly turned off by FFG these days anyhoo, I'm having much more fun with Osprey rules and other more obscure miniature games. And Shadespire.

I'm even considering building an ECW army to play Pikemans Lament, but the amount of painting would be daunting.

It'll probably be 30 quid a pop for conversion kits though won't it? I'm not into competitive anyway, only play with my bro in law and nephew.

Black or white spray undercoat? I have £100 worth of cool nerd paint in my GW basket and need confirmation before I start questioning my sanity and back out.

Use zenith painting as well. Look it up, I'm going to try it next.
Pick a light source direction. Spray white base onto your mini from that direction then spray black from the direct opposite direction.

Have you got varnish as well? To seal the mini when finished. Matt and gloss (for shiny metal bits).
And wash you'll need wash.
And..... And.... And...

Should have just picked a model and got the paints to go with that my dude.

Can I suggest for the actual model you pick to start with you go for something super easy while you're getting a handle on your painting skillz.

Something like bog standard space marines are a good mix of large flats, detail areas and places you can drybrush. Lots pf scope for working on your techniques.

Pretty much did. I'm going to paint Ungrim Ironfist so I picked up the Fyreslayers paints and a few extras because I want to do something a bit different with his dragon cloak. Coupled with brushes and basing stuff, it added up fast!

I have a few old slayers I'll practise my beard technique on.
