Do Boardgames Dream of Miniature Porn?

I bought a pair of the Tamiya precise sprue cutters last year. They save a lot of time.
Geeky as fuck but I don't care.

I liked the look of the tamiya ones but have been told I should get a single blade nipper for cleanup to save loads of time. I might have spotted a pair of ‘not quite godhands but close’ and bought them...

Yeah RG's are pretty hard to get done in a day. I never really sand as I tell myself I'll paint them one day and will do it then. So I'm saving time there.
The MG's I build I did really quickly as I didn't know what I was doing. A colleague at the time had done in his desk, and I wanted one too. So I bought 3. Don't have them anymore, gave them away when we moved to the US.

Not gonna do that for my Eva's so once Anubis is done (started tonight) and then Unit-00, I'll see how coat and decals go for that one, and do Unit-01 after that. Don't think the Eva's need panel lines but I'll have to take a look at what other people have done with them.

Edit, here's the hand painted SD:

  • Oh cool! I love the paint job, really clean too. I really like the SD cross silhouette figures out at the mo, need to get a small set of those.

I was ready to panel line the Eva 01 but I didn't bother. There's enough part separation and there is barely anything to really panel line because of it. Maybe a couple of bits on the back, but that's it. Have the unit 00 in the backlog and imagine it'd be the same.

Anyone after a little fast abstract strategy game, ghis is an absolute bargain.

    https://meeplescorner.co.uk/product/aqualin/

I paid full price a few weeks back and me and Elliot have been hammering it.

One person is creatures, the other colours. You're trying to clump together whatever your chosen side is to score points. On your turn you can slide a piece and place a piece. That's it. It's really simple but fun.
  • Oil washes are definitely something to get into - pin washes are a speed painters dream. They're also really good for filtering, and they blend very easily given the long drying times.

The only problem I have with them, along with the vallejo liquid gold/silver paints, is the speed at which I go through turpentine. Kills brushes too.
  • I got myself a pair of Dspiae nippers 3.0 (bought them from here) to see if it would help me speed up the build a little bit. At first I didn’t mind spending huge amounts of time on a kit but as I get further into a build I find myself getting impatient and making silly mistakes (lots of gouging with the hobby knife being the main issue).

I used them on a mechatrowego kit (thanks tempy for posting an image of it a while ago, I love the design), which is such a great kit and I loved making it.

As for the nippers, yeah, I love them, definitely worth the money. They are a definite luxury though (and very expensive for what they are...) would never say you ‘need’ a pair, but they cut the plastic like a hot knife through butter. I have seen people compare them to the godhands a lot, and that they are very comparable, which means you can cut right up to the piece and leaves minimal cleanup. I have avoided using them on any hard plastics (clear parts, ABS etc) and won’t use them on the runner itself at all, the blade is very thin.

    Anyway, here’s the finished kit:

A Necromunda videogame is coming out next week. How have I only just found this out? Been looking online and can't even find any gameplay vids.

I've just realised it's the same people that made Mordheim, which was awful.

    Enthusiasm vanished :(

    Looks interesting, thanks.
Another great abstract stategy game that I found is Santorini - it's got some really interesting rule variations and the components are lovely.

Ooh ta I'll have a look.
  • It's a deceptively dull video tbh. More of a breakdown of gameplay featured in a trailer, than a let's play, but it'll give you an idea of what to expect.

  • Have picked up some good deals on Marines to pass the time. One from the discord community I post on that has the big Warhammer group I hang out with, but probably not getting anything until either my birthday or I can find a nice part time job to do alongside my final project resit. Also have a bunch of Warhammer related articles to write for a site, but not sure how that will interfere with my Universal Credit, if I ever get approved for it.

Anyway, we're here for pictures I presume?

Hmm. I wish it was a Gamepass title because that looks worryingly identical to Mordheim, so I won't be taking a punt full price.
  • Love the Martian red dust.
  • Yup. Those are really good Temps.

  • That dreadnaught is my favourite thing of everything you've painted. The base works really well with the colour scheme, and with the weathering it looks like the model really belongs to the scenery.

If you want some criticism (I mean, you're getting it anyway so buckle in) - it would benefit a lot if you touched up the base rim with black, or wiped away the weathering powder.
  • Thanks! I had fun building the base, but posing the model on it was a fucking nightmare. I need to shout at Tom Walton on twitter for designing a kit that looks you can pose it thanks to all the parts that say you shouldn't glue them, but in fact isn't good for posing!

I'm too impatient to wait for the black touch up before I take photos, as weathering powder is a very strange thing that gets all over your fingers, but I do intend to go back and do the base rims before I varnish everything in the next week or two, hopefully a full army shot will look better.

    Thanks G and n0face also!
  • I wondered if that was a custom pose - I'm not up to speed on all the variants of the new primaris bits. It looks great.
  • Another angry lad for my Space Marines.

Hey Pea, look! Mantic are doing Man o War for their Kings of War universe of games. (Potentially) Dirt cheap naval combat on fantasy high seas, pre-orders on Friday!

Might break out if my GW sphere to play this, as tiny ships are something i’ve wanted since I was a wean. Only BFG reboot could make me abandon it.

    Huh. Looks good.

People at club bought into Black Seas so I doubt they could be convinced. I'm tempted though.

Edit: Oh, I just realised it's based on Black Seas. Wonder if the ships are transferable.

Well, The Bard just posted a video about this with some of his predictions. I'm intrigued as Heroquest got me into all things Games Workshop back when I was in school.
    Hope it doesn't disappoint.

  • Vaguely curious, but as GW aren't involved but Hasbro are... eh. We'll see. Avalon Hill did Betrayal which seems to be the only thing they're really notable for, but I see the do Robo Rally and Risk so maybe they are just republishing as it was back in the day now they own the license.
  • Well that's a bummer. Hero Quest looks like a full on re-release and a very nice one but it's crowdfunded (as if Hasbro need the cash) and US only. It's also $100 minimum.
Can only think they're testing the water for interest, but I really hate how crowdfunding has basically been appropriated by these big companies, apparently to offset their promo budgets

You'd have to be completely insane to spend that amount of money on Heroquest when Gloomhaven exists. Hell, the mini Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion is more than half that price.
  • My cynicism is rewarded. The models look... fine. But Hasbro doing Kickstarter? What a laugh.
