Do Boardgames Dream of Miniature Porn?
  • What has been your favourite model to paint? And least favourite?
  • Hard question, they all sort of blur into one. Obliterators took the longest, were probably the most fiddly. Slickblade Seekers and Blissbarb Archers similarly intensive minis to paint. Favourite? Dunno, probably the Void Dragon, Glottkin, or Mega-gargant. Big models are easy mode.
  • Favourite: Master of Executions just a nice amount of detail, without becoming a pain. Plenty of scope to customise the paint across the three main features of the armour, skirt and bigge axe.

Least Favourite: Obliterators, I am currently painting one having stopped on it two times previously. They look amazing but there's just too much detail on something that's not even a HQ or centrepiece unit! They're covered in tiny cables going everywhere, teeth poking out all over the place, a completely ridiculous sunken head hidden behind a ring of teeth and five kilometres of gold trim. Half the detail sculpted on the underside of the arms and side torsos is completely hidden when the thing is assembled! I don't get how they came to be like this at all!!! If they wanted to flex, GW should have gone all out on the venomcraler or master of posession from the same box the Obliterators came from.
"Let me tell you, when yung Rouj had his Senna and Mansell Scalextric, Frank was the goddamn Professor X of F1."
  • Played 1st game of Horrified with 3/4 of the fam. We failed, but it's a good game.

It is a very nice Pandemic alternative. Great for the family.
  • Ooh, an unexpected box of Seraphon appeared as a gift from my bro. Now, I collected dwarves and lizardmen as a teen so I do like these fellas and am quite keen.

But the model range is a bit out of date, innit. T, have words please. The carnosaur is great. Kroak is a boss. The rank and file? C'mon chaps...
  • I've also already got a carnosaur that I bought on eBay 'cos I really liked the model, and I'll have a bunch of older bits around too. Must go digging!

  • I wouldn't expect anything soon to be honest.
  • What has been your favourite model to paint? And least favourite?

It's been years since I played and painted 40k but my 2 shining moments were abaddon the despoiler and a hive tyrant. Nowhere near the level of Tempy but one mate said they were good enough to nearly be in a group shot in white dwarf.

Always tempted to wander into the nearby games workshop just to grab a few miniatures but my bank manager says no.

Boo. Still, plenty to be getting on with.
  • Does anyone else have a board game arena account? Anyone up for some async games?

Yeah, I'd be up for something. I'm jdanielp_uk on there.
  • It’s hard finding a good asynchronous game so if anyone has a suggestion I can fire up a game.
  • That Emperor's Champion looks great Tempy - your style looks really good on marines.

Interesting that everyone is moaning about painting the obliterators. I wouldn't say they've been my favourite models to paint, but I thought they were ok. I quite enjoyed painting the skin. It might be because I did a bit of a rush job on them to just get them done at a level I thought they looked 'ok' sat alongside other, better painted (imo) models. Image showing current progress below - they still need basing and some touch ups, but I've moved onto the venom crawler and don't want to go back until  after that's done. Not that I'm actually making any progress - I haven't picked up a paint brush since November.

No idea what my favourite to paint was but my least favourite was Magnus. He took months because of how huge he is, and I'm not super happy with him.

Actually maybe the greater possessd below was a favourite. I was only going to do him to the same standard as the other marines, but ended up spending longer on him because he was a fun sculpt.

Not sure what people like. I'll play anything apart from Lords of Waterdeep or Seasons. Only games I've ever really hated.
  • What about Terra Mystica? I’ve never played it. It plays up to five people.

    How about:

I’ll start a game of that on Friday ( say 8pm ish) and invite anyone who’s interested.
And then between now and then anyone who doesn’t know the rules can learn them?

Post/PM your Boardgame arena handle so I know who to invite before 8pm Friday 7 Jan (UK time)

Yeh I've never played that either but always fancied a dabble.

Been hammering A Feast For Odin this last week, solo. Absolutely loving it. Tried to leave it set up overnight as was getting late but....came down to find Cooper had been lay on it and all my pieces were scattered everywhere.

    I forgot about him.

I'll try to have a look at the rules although given it's a 4/5 complexity rating (I say that without being aware of the ratings of any of the games that I do actually know on BGA) it might be more than I have time for just now.
  • Whilst waiting for my #NewYearNewArmy project bits, I've done a little more on Bannerman George.

Slowly slowly slowly... Not particularly looking forward to doing the banner.

Probabably not enough interest for this! I haven’t learnt the game yet.
