Yeah, he's being a bit of a cunt and his voice is very annoying, but at least he agrees that. I don't like how he acts like she asked for 3 times more than the $5k she asked for.

Why is he being a cunt? He's pointing the masturbatory nature some kickstarter "documentaries" not the subject matter. In fact he goes to great lengths to point that out.

I'm not sure Ms Moran would approve of your use of the word cunt, by the by.
  • Doubt she'd give a shit, she didn't appear to in her book.

She might produce shit, it's just the fact that he acts like he knows exactly what she is going to produce before she has and then presents a handful of female characters saying that if only she'd look at these the whole issue would blow over. She set up a Kickstarter to make a project, they are totally optional things. Rag on the people funding them.

I think he was. Although there'd be nothing to fund without someone setting them up.

Though adding a 15th episode once she'd been called on the lack of positive role models was pretty egregious.
  • Yeah she doesn't get any claps here from me. I don't mean cunt in the really bile filled way, I just use it too often. I probably meant 'he was a bit of a twit' more.
  • Seem to recall Moran was pretty fond of "cunt" actually.

That's right only women can talk about women.

    To an extent, probably.

Right that's us told then I guess.

Thank fuck for that. Take a telling next time.

Well, it had to be said, tbh.

It is the glaring ommision in this thread.

When having this sort of discussion, there seems to be a lot of psuedo-mind reading and assumption about intentions, and it's more often than not FTL. Heck, you could say the same in the God thread. I find myself always being mindful about what ideas/thoughts/motivations I'm ascribing to other people.

Had something else I wanted to pick up on. brb. ;)
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Oh god what have I said now.

Re: the women thing, we don't have any women (that have posted in here) surely men talking about feminism in a positive light is a good thing?

I also do my best to be mindful, other cock ups notwithstanding. I'm making a meal of today.
  • There are more than a few experiences and issues contained within feminism and gender stuff that overlap between mens and womens. If there were not, we would really be in a bind.
I'm a Sasquatch man and I'm watching you.
  • I've gone back through my posts and I do not think I have at any point stated something that is not an opinion on Moran's book, non-verbatim anecdotes from my friends, or just stuff that is to do with general script I've read on feminism, which is why I didn't agree with Reg.

I don't think I've put words in anyone's mouth but my own.
  • @temp: Even though I was quoting a string you were in, I wasn't actually referring to you. I'm not gonna pick anyone out in particular. Esepcially as some of the stuff that's made me balk (sp??) a little has been well intentioned.

And, obviously, this isn't a black and white thing. I don't mean that mens should never ever speak of such things, it's just that there's assumptions and and such that seem to creep into this sort of discussion when it's only men talking about it.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Yeah, that happens. I do my best, but to err is to be human and all that.

I'd relish some female posters venturing their opinions but I only know of 3 and they rarely post.
  • I'm trying to get the missus to post. Instead of reading threads and then shouting at her Mac.

  • heh. She hasn't even read this one. mainly the God thread. There was a similar thread on the old maroon room too though, that had her shouting a little bit.

Feminism is a huge complicated mass with lots of views. It is not simply one view of what women think.

  • Cor dem girls eh? Crazy bitches.

But seriously, the 'Internet' reaction to this with the comments made by 4Chan or whoever was insane. Absolutely ridiculous and just not warranted at all.

I kind of agree with people saying that 'real men' are as under represented as 'real women'. Alan Wake is probably as 'normal' as it gets, in terms of he was just a guy caught in the wrong place, same with the guy from Silent Hill, or Leon in RE2. There are examples there. Same with women, really, Claire Redfield is a kick ass woman without being reduced to base level sexiness, as is Jill Valentine.

    I WILL NOW!

But is this not evidence that gamings treatment of women is now worse? Not to stereotype but now we have the CoD crowd, by which I mean the 14 year old boys calling other players 'niggers' etc, as a huge market appealing to that is easy money.

  • The rather undesirable phrase 'strong female character' often gets brandished too. That such a phrase even exists as an identifier is something that I think is a bit of a problem.

Recently there was a Kickstarter for an iOS game called Republique wherein you played an inside agent in a dystopian environment who had to hep a SFP escape. Yes, so strong that she needed help from a man.

That female gender stereotypes are often debunked with the counter 'well we men get the same' is weak. First of all women aren't creating those stereotypes, and there is no male equality imbalance in the world at large.

Stereotypes of gay men in games aren't as common but I wouldn't be surprised if extra effort was made to handle them better.
