Where in the US though... People on $100k here in Orange County don't have that much left to save from what I know.poprock wrote:Fuck me. The median salary for my role in the US is over $120,000 a year. And a massive number of men in my role are on more than $200,000.

If it's in Silicon Valley you might need to sleep in your car.
Or you need to enjoy a min of 1 hour commutes each way. Then you might find affordable places.
(I might be wrong, this is just what I heard and one of the reasons no one wants to move to North Cal)
Yeah, was just saying it because we thought we'd be fine when we saw what B would earn here, which I think was about the same as we were earning together in Amsterdam. But there's a reason we decided to get a bigger apartment with a roommate couple months ago.poprock wrote:Haha! Saving. The very idea. If only.
But yeah, that level of data is missing from the spreadsheet. The submission form only asks what country.
I know a $200k salary wouldn’t guarantee a nice apartment in Manhattan. Nor would £100k in Central London. But it does make you think about it a bit.
250k guarantees you a modest apartment nearish Manhattan. Source is someone I know on 250kUSD who can afford a modest apartment nearish Manhattan. 1k+ a week mindpoprock wrote:Haha! Saving. The very idea. If only.

Feels inevitable that I should chuck in an application, but I'm suddenly having a crisis of confidence. It would be the first thing I've applied for in about five years, and I'm plagued by worries that I will be caught short by the leap in terms of responsibilities involved. I should probably give my head a wobble, stop thinking so far ahead, and just set myself the goal of getting an application done. Now how the hell do you write one of those again?
