I think I've put 20 hours into Baba is You over the past week. Love it, but fuck me if it's not just a bit too hard. It's great, but it could do a better job of introducing concepts.
Can't click at work, but is this the 26min Sudoku video? Got linked that last night too. I've not attempted a soduku puzzle in all my days but my days I was glued to that vid. It's quality.
Did Toki Tori get much love in these parts? Playing Toki Tori+ on Switch (89p alert) and it's a cracking puzzle game. I thought I'd hate it once it got tricky but the rewind feature is a Godsend.
Reckon I'd like it? It's on gamepass. Bit long though. I have played the majority of Devolver published titles and enjoyed pretty much all of them, it tends to be a modern seal of quality.
Not sure you will. It's pretty hard core 3d puzzler. Bit like QUBE or Turing Test I guess - and maybe you did like those actually? It's very clever / you get to feel smug when you do things, but yes there's quite a lot to it. I think some of it off the beaten path though, so you might be able to cream through? I'm enjoying meandering / completionism tho cos the puzzles are GOOD!
Right, onto maybe the home of Talos stretch - I think...
Spoiler:
I've got to the fifth floor, and the remaining puzzles are needed to get through its door - I guess getting the lift to the sixth floor. Is that then it? There's then also the door in the church, but not more levels outside it by then, so . Consistently got puzzles thus far regardless. Still not many stars, mind...
I found that really fucking hard. Haven't managed much at all as basically gave up. This is way more approachable, as per all their previous games I expect a near perfect learning curve...
Yeah, it's alright this. Puzzles so far are all switch/lever/platform stuff, with you having to move enemies around by using lights (they're afraid of lights). I haven't seen anything wildly original yet, but it's nicely done and the art style and music are of course lovely.
Next Tetris Deluxe was a JP only redux of Next Tetris.
The original has a 16 level practice mode that sets up various arrangements of garbage , the aim being to clear the bottom line of the pit with a set number of pieces. The original intention was to teach the player how the new mechanic worked - the tetrads are sometimes made up of different coloured sections that come apart after the they lock in place - creating opportunities for lengthy combos.
The Deluxe version takes this idea and runs with it in a full on Puzzle mode. A goodly batch of these levels has been created and it's rather satisfying once you figure out exactly how the new mechanic works. It would be too easy for this is degenerate into an exercise in luck (the main mode suffers from this especially once the drop speed builds up) but so far it seems to be worth a look. I suspect there are basic rules of thumb about piece placement depending on their structure that will make combos more likely.
Just got wind of Tetris v Puyo Puyo 2 out at the end of the year. Wondering if I should hold on for that - about to pull the trigger on the Switch version.
Japanese version of IQ for the PS2 has landed on my mat.
That's Kurushi to us in Europe. I've always had a fondness for this one and seeing an update for cheap on PS2 was hard to resist.
Thing is - I think I might prefer the PS1 original - has a better soundtrack. I thought getting this would free me up to sell the original as it's worth a few bob - I have the sequel too Kurushi FInal for PS1. Will be keeping them for now.
This seems to be a straight up redux for PS2 with slightly smoother visuals and further bit of polish - though the original has a lovely minimalist feel that has aged well. I think this got re-released on the PS1 mini? Probably the only game worth playing on that from what I remember.
Watched a short piece on this on youtube - seems the designer of this was an artist who also produced some of Japan's stickiest ad campaigns...knew how to get under our skin...this was the only game he ever did before moving on.
If you don't know about this one I'd make it my business to try it. Sublime concept.
I've not played the new one yet (out today), but the other three are three of the best puzzlers I know, so I have high hopes, and this is all absolute steal regardless if you have any interest in these types of games...
