Anyway, this is probably the game I'm most looking forward to in the coming months. The original had me pile hours and hours into it, and from what I've seen of this remake looks superb.Â

Apparently when you play MP you have a set amount of points to build your team, and it can be a mix of humans and aliens. Hopefully you can have a few pre-built teams on the go.

Was really impressed with what I played at i46. Although has anyone seen that unique pre-ordering bar on the Steam store page that means the more people who pre-order, the more bonuses you get? Not sure how I feel about that.

I nearly ordered it the other day from GMG with 25% off but as they take the money straight away and always seem to be running that promotion and the game isn't out till November (iirc)... I didn't.

Love the 'hear' feature, where it shows you the direction a soldier has heard movement from.Â

Fucksticks, ShopTo seems to be borked. I've tried the main site and the app, it crashes every time I try to order it.

I'm most looking forward to staring at the guys in my base. It's like a military ant farm.

Had no idea about this. Thought it was some kind of FPS. Fantastic news.Â

Has anyone gone back and played the original? I have been quite a bit in recent months. Keeping in mind I'm the type of person who thinks virtually every game that's over 5 years old is now rubbish, I was hugely surprised by how playable it still is. Well worth trying, for those that haven't already.

For anyone interested, the original can easily be downloaded for free. Alternatively, I think it's costing about Â£2 on steam. Download is about 12mb and I'd guess nobody here has a computer that can't run it.

Despite its PC heritage, you can bet your bottom dollar that this will be built with a console control scheme in mind. Â I mean, what isn't these days?

I can see the pad being as good, if not better, than mouse and keys.Â

Bumpers to change terrain levels, d-pad to change targets, triggers to rotate, A to select targets/abilities. Maybe.

Achievements

Really fancy the Ironman mode(game autosaves over your file if you lose a squad member). Surely the way to play.

One of the main things in Xcom is developing an attachment to veteran units. The memorial room in the new game will be all the more poignant if you lose a guy you've specced up and seen ascend through the ranks. Fuck hitting restart if you lose him.

Ok, I'll go permadeath, but if I end up with a squad of noobs half way through the campaign making progress impossible I'll moan so hard the internet will meme about it for decades.

Just restart the campaign after piling 40 hours into it. Simples.Â

The trick in the old one was to squad rotate, so you can't fuck up so bad you lose all your veterans in one move.

Explain squad rotate, as if you were talking to an above average intelligence chimp. Like Caesar off of RotPotA.

Don't use the same guys every mission. Rest a couple and take a few rookies. Keep doing this so that later on in the campaign you have a load of veterans.
