I just made the mistake of watching the Top Gear electric car episode. They are not as anti-electric car as they once were and they even gave Tesla's Model 3 a broadly positive review, but it was still routinely misleading and/or uninformative overall.
Parked up at work yesterday, 0545. I'm sitting, getting myself together cos I'm very tired, and notice a red light on my dash...
That's weird. Car felt fine this morning. Oh fuck, I can't afford anything substantial just now. Fuck. Fuck. Hmmm. Kill 'er and start again. Still there. Fuck.
I take a photo and jump out to see my colleague. Ask him what it could be. I show him the photo.
"Gav that's yer fuckin' handbrake light ya fuckin' dough ball!"
I test drove a Tesla Model 3 this afternoon. It was quite an experience due to the crazy acceleration of the performance version, not that there was all that much opportunity to floor it safely, and using Autopilot and Autopark for the first time... I would thoroughly recommend trying it given the chance.
No denying it, they’re similar! I think they’ve taken a fairly straightforward shape and elevated it from functional to beautiful though. The exaggerated arches and pinched waist make a big difference. The De Tomaso makes the P3/4 look slab-sided and flat-nosed.
They’re both derived from classic Le Mans racers and a dash of ’60s sportscar styling.
Nah, the 8C is massively different. You’re just thinking that because it’s curvy. The 8C is front-engined and has a huge long bonnet. These beasts are mid-engined, hence the GT40-style void where a bonnet would be, and hefty intakes on the rear arches to get oxygen into that engine.
Ah, gotcha. That’s a made-up render from Car Magazine. Supposed to represent their prediction for what a forthcoming ‘new’ 8C might look like.
Mid-engined supercars are all starting to look the same though, aren’t they? Take the core elements (four wheels, cockpit, engine behind the two seats) and drape a sheet over them. Draw a smoothly-curved version of what you see. Add air intakes in the logical places. Done.
