Elite: Dangerous
  • Ah yeah I saw my viper mkiv has a planetary approach suite. I've not done any Horizon specific stuff but I started doing a couple of passenger missions. I've got a business class passenger module in my dogfighting ship :D Seems like I can only take one passenger mission at a time currently but even then Im making about 200-300k on a round about 13 light year runs. Much, much faster than bounty hunting. In abou tan hour last night I netted a million. I might buy a dolphin and throw a few cabins in there and see if i can take on more than one mission at a time.
This is good though, finally a relatively decent way to make money. I don't mind sinking in a few hours if I can get an Anaconda in a decent amount of time.

  • Ah, the poor man's Federal Corvette.

I think I sold my Anaconda, it wasn't much fun TBH.
It was like driving a building around and wasnt particular great at combat despite its multiple hard points.

If you want a combat capable large ship consider the python.

  • Well I might go for an Asp Explorer. Dunno yet. I've quite a few passenger runs to do before I buy.

  • Asp Exp was my go to ship for yonks.
I loved it, great bounty hunter as well but they've kind of nerfed it for that recently.

I know it's easy to say when you have mega bucks but the Fer de Lance is so much fun in a Haz Res. But it's got fuck all jump range.

I would aim for a Python.

  • Im sittin pretty on 3.6mill right now lol. From the looks of things I might be bes to grab a Dolphin and throw some pax cabins in there, make some bank yo.

  • Ha, did they fix the passengers asking for stoopid stop offs all the time?
A lot of them where multiple light year jumps out of the way and turned a fairly easy money run into a jump through hoops nightmare.

Even an Asp Exp will take at least 15m to make it competitive. I think I spent about 20m A-rating mine.
And with the Asp you get some nice flappy-bum-time tales to tell when your canopy gets holed in a Haz Res and you have seconds to spare getting back to the safety of a station (I had about 2m worth of stacked bounties when it happened to me).

  • I have to admit I did go the skimmer mission exploit route to buy all my stuff post Asp Exp tho.
I did struggle for money for a long time but legit got my Asp up to spec.

It makes a lovely throaty V8 gurgle when you fly it and it does have the best view of any ship out there.

I have a viper. It's fast and can carry a fair bit of hardware without being too expensive. It's not much of a cargo ship, though.
  • Yup got a Viper MKIV myself.With a passenger cabin :D

  • Last night I tried a bit of bounty hunting. Spent about 15 minutes, only found one Wanted. He was in a federal corvette but there were a gang of bounty hunters (ai) and I just barely took him down. I was a tiny % away from death. And what did I get for my trouble? 66k.
But I took a passeneger mission, Rhea to LQ Hydrea which is a 2 jump route. Got 500k and did it in less than 10 minutes.

By the way for passenger missions, i dont take tourists, just direct route and only passengers that are not wanted. Easy, easy money. And much quicker and less risky than bounty hunting.

Bounty hunting is more fun though. Get to a high density extraction zone and you'll find plenty of targets.
  • Yeah but its more efficient right now it seems to drop a couple hours on the passenger stuff. I sank hours and hours into bounty hunting and found it to be quite slow at times. Just hanging around waiting for a target.

  • OK – Bounty Hunting – you can make major dolla but you have to go to a mining area – Resource Extraction Site. There are different types but they are always found around ringed planets. Find a system with one or more ringed planets (not a lawless/anarchic system, you want a high security system) use the navigation panel to find the nearest High Intensity RES, then drop into it and toodle about. Ships will spawn in, you scan them and kill them and get loads of spacebucks.
Dont forget to SCAN EVERY ship before opening fire as the space police will turn on you as well as the pirates if you dont, even if they are engaged with the pirates.

When you drop into the area see what types of ships spawn, if you get pirate anacondas (or imperial cutters etc...) then stay in that instance for as long as possible. That instance will keep spawning those giant ships with giant bounties.
Its easy to make a couple of mill and hour, also it will help with your flying skillz/energy management juggling.

If you just get small fry like Adders/Sidewinders over and over then log out and back in and see what happens.

Never take on a Anaconda by yourself, wait for it to be attacked by the cops or other bounty hunters then dog pile in, you just need to do some damage and not necessarily get the final shot for the kill/bounty.

I suspect you are hanging around open space!?
Even hanging around Nav Beacons (near the system sun when you drop into a system) will have shed loads of wanted ships milling about.

And a viper is wasted on passengers. Fill it with missiles and beam lasers.
  • Nope, Ive been hitting high intensity res'. Never seen ANYTHING close to a even half mill an hour. Maybe if nothing is spawning then a log out and log in is worth a go. But when you log in you are back at the nearest station aren't you? Getting back out there takes time. Thats why the 200k -500k passenger missions are worth it in my Viper. Its max 10minutes and its guaranteed cash bucks at low risk.

Regarding my Viper, I have a gimballed chain cannon and a beam laser. Also a decent shield, hull upgrades, chaff and a wanted scanner. So Im kitted out pretty well. Its just the one passenger cabin I got. Unless further shields or something can be fit in that bay? Im only playing agian for the first time in months so Im a bit hazy on the details.

  • How bizarre. It's been a while since I've played but I keep my eye on the elite d Reddit and I've not seen anything about Res nerfing.
If you log out in space you will be sitting in space when you log back in. Just get away from the asteroids before logging out. You don't want to log back in the middle of one.

  • I was getting 220k per anaconda kill months back.
    Fyi.
    Live= sgt pantyfire    PSN= pantyfire
  • Hmmm odd. Last night it was either a federal dropship or corvette that we took down and i got just 66k. Not sure where that ranks with an anaconda though. The system should be high security though...hmmm not sure if I checked that before. I may hit reddit...

  • 66k for a fed drop sounds about right.
You do have to be quite proactive in the Res zones.
Keep an eye on the scanner for glitchy signals, or if you see a fight/laser fire elsewhere boot it as fast as you can to try and get a shot in.

    Current situation says noooo.
  • Fuck me I had a proper Oprah lightbulb moment in elite last night.
Ive been doing a passenger run in a Dolphin between Rhea and Lq Hydrea to build up cash to buy an aspx.just dipping in doing a return trip every now and again. It's a 2 jump trip each way. I had a little more time last night so I flew from Hydrea to Amun to upgrade my thrusters and frameshift drive. My range increased to 19.something light years. I could now fly back to Rhea in a single jump. AND when I got there my thrusters are so good my time spent barrelling toward my chosen station was at least halved.Mind blown.

  • Right. Just started this. Ballsed up and couldn’t land so was blown up and respawned 26 light years from my target. Found the destination on the map but can’t get there.

How do I plan my route?
    Xbox / PSN - DongleUnlimited
  • Apologies if this is a bloody stupid question.
    Xbox / PSN - DongleUnlimited
  • It should auto plan when you select a system that is too far to get to in a single jump.
You should check how its planning tho. Make sure it's not using the most economical route instead of the fastest. You can check in the tabs on the star map itself.

Iirc there's a line with waypoints option on it when you select a system?
    Live= sgt pantyfire    PSN= pantyfire
  • 'Sometimes' you might not be able to navigate to a system because your ship just can't find a route that has legs within its jump range, but that's usually very, very rare.
