I've popped up an old prototype for an infinite flying game on itch. You can try it here.
Its incredibly basic with zero optimizations or much effort put in. The way he ship reacts (auto levelling and such) needs work but I quite like the controls. They feel pretty responsive. Any thoughts?

Totally get what you are saying about the collision detection. One thing I might need to change is the ability to have the ship change rotation(ie have the wings perpendicular to the ground) without changing velocity. So as to fly through a narrow gap etc.

Oh its super early(though a couple of years old) so if i made something of the game there would be floor for sure. The handling speed is easily tweaked though. The effect on the wingtips is an out of the box Unity standard asset called Trail Renderer I think.The ship is pink because it was using a wireframe shader but I guess that doesnt work now!
Thats the beauty of making my own games, I can ensure that pressing up correctly moves the ship up!!
I had a version of this where there was a network of cubes criss crossing instead of a basic city. Meh not sure if Ill take this further or else do a top down shooter(as inspired by Trippy)

Ta, all done with Unity. 

The control scheme isn't a virtual twin stick effort.

I wasn’t after a constantly firing, explosions everywhere, shooting game. Originally there was going to be a cool-down timer on the player’s gun, but during development realised it wasn’t necessary because of the control scheme.

The player’s ship always moves forward. Touching the left side of the screen turns left, the right side right. The circle in the middle of the screen shows the player’s ship’s laser range, and tapping within the circle fires at that location (if the tap was not close to an enemy), if the tap is over an enemy the laser locks on and fires at that enemy, so even though the enemy and player ship may be moving, the laser still hits the target.

As the player’s gun is mounted on the ship, the fire isn’t instantaneous, as the gun needs to be rotated towards the target, so it’s a tenth, or fifth of a second after the tap that the fire occurs.

I was concerned that maybe it would work better on smaller devices and less well on larger tablets and did try a virtual joystick with a tap to fire at certain times. But didn’t like it, as it changed the approach to playing the game and so stuck with the original control scheme. Which I think works, as the player needs to decide whether to steer through things, or choose which hand/finger to do what; turn or fire.

I had a mail from Google about not having a privacy policy. There are certain permissions now that apparently Google require you to have a privacy document for. I found a place that hosts and has a template for privacy policys. I just hope its sufficient. Here is the privacy policy site
