Let him share. It's cathartic as he's bit his tongue through all of this.

Please continue Fenton if you will.

Not really, from what I've read here and in other places, no they haven't.

A few people have also offered her genuine advice as well.
  • Urgent hospital referrals, signed of work, etc.

    Ah, yikes. My apologies.

Haven't had a reason to complain about her tbh, seems like fun addition.
  • I didn't know about all that so I apologise for anything I might've said today. Hope she finds some help. All the best to the pair of you.

I've steered clear on here, but I genuinely hope she gets the help she needs to see her through this.

    Ah, yikes. My apologies.

This is my point. It's easy from where you are to distance yourself from this. For me, it's real life. And to see my friends on the internet treat her life and by extension mine as some juicy forum drama. Well, yeah.

  • My own fault for not clicking on the Depression thread in like 300 posts according to the ticker.
  • I have a belief that someone with serious, real-life issues shouldn't expose themselves to arguments on the internet if they're highly likely to suffer real-life problems because of them.

I obviously feel for you that you're wrapped up in this, but if the issues are that serious (hospital referrals etc) then perhaps her posting here is a negative thing for her, and that should be dealt with rather than asking everyone here to mitigate their posting?
  • I treated her like I would any other forumite.
I figured you (Fenton) were the ex, it was Milton keynes and not me. Decided not to shout it about though.

The trouble is it is very hard to adjust behaviour for individuals if you know nothing about them, especially if like myself, you never look at the mental health thread.

That being said she seemed like a nice girl and liked cats and had a good sense of humour so I hope she is ok and still feels welcome to come back here as and when she is ready.

This is a good point. Not everyone would of realised how serious things are especially if they don't keep track of a certain thread. I've only just caught up with it myself, had no idea it was all so bad, having played and chatted to Truth all week on Halo she just seems so bubbly and her posts outside of that thread have been very much inclined towards banter.

Not seen Twitter etc so no idea about that but on here from what I read there's been an awful lot of support imo. I do wish you both well and hope to see you online soon :)

This says something about the flippancy that people treat real mental illness with. And the reasons a lot of people won't diagnose themselves
  • I don't know what's been going on bar the argument with Andy, but she's pretty cool to play Halo with. That's all that matters for me.
  • Fenton - I don't really know you or her, what with me not being a halo reg, but I hope you're both doing okay and that once she's back on an even keel she feels she can join in the community to chat about games and all the other random forum banter.
I can understand you're fuming - but, well, hopefully you can both see that the initial reception wasn't from the entire forum, as it's a fairly diverse bunch and not everyone's as active as others.
All the best to you both.
  • Look, I'm sorry everyone. As Beano said, I've kept quiet through all this and just kinda asploded after catching up with everything I read today.
  • I don't really think you've got anything to be apologising for, Fenton.

    Mate, it's fine.

I think it goes without saying that whilst some may find melodrama distasteful, and say so, no one here would wish ill of someone in Ellie's condition.
    The janitor.
  • Fenton nor Ellie have done any wrong.

Maybe people should read quote unquote important threads that people post in just to gain a little perspective, not that any conditions absolve people from all sins, but may stop people from ragging at length without considetation on a person who has some kind of ailment.

Also, maybe people don't commit their entire mental estate to this establishment, and people should generally just let people be occasionally wrong? After all, we are all just people, fallible, inquisitive people.

Don't think that's fair tbh. Real world so to speak I agree but a non specialist forum used to banter with a newcomer who is bantering as well, it's easy too see how it would be easy to misread and it's not like the internet doesn't have its fair share of attention seekers, trolls etc.

Most people here are not experts, and most don't read every thread.

Fwiw I like Truth and I hope she sticks around especially in Halols. Please don't take me the wrong way as you are a top dude but Fenton you could have perhaps posted earlier about the situation, it may have prevented any confusion in a situation that would was very hard to judge given Truths other posts and her being new here. None of this has been ideal maybe but its not hard to see where the seriousness can be easily missed.
  • +1 tempy

And I hope you Fenton are ok. I cared for a girlfriend for a long time that had clinical depression and it takes its toll. Take care of yourself too. And I hope ellie is safe.
  • That's fair enough, 'nana.

    Thanks everyone.

The problem with this Elm is that when you are suffering from severe depression, suicidal or otherwise, it is a silly thing to expect someone to behave rationally when they are failing to behave in any way rationally about their own health and worth. There are silly reasons for suspicion which we have all had - mostly thanks to weird interlopers and some strange alt happy sorts who did not have a presidential theme - but for pity's sake, the idea of hounding some sort over the wrong internet language is deranged. There is a real human person out there who was genuinely trying to find somewhere welcoming and safe to talk. I mean, the technology being shit thread is about innocuous as you can get.

Fuck I don't mean that in a bad way, hope you never took it that way! Fucking writing froma phone its hard to put shit into words. I guess I'm just trying to see it from all angles, its so easy to misread stuff on a forum.

Regardless, I genuinely wish you both the best, I had to be involved in sectioning due to a different elderly illness - one of the worst things I've ever had to do so whilst different I do really feel your pain mate. Sincerely not having a pop mate, main thing is you both get through it and know we are all here for you.

Probably should stress I've not seen all of the stuff from this (twitter) so if I'm totally misreading everything my sincere apologies.

You put shit into words very well, Nana, and I totally agree with your sentiments. Fenton making himself known has made me feel a lot more at ease with the situation.

Best of luck to both Ellie and Fenton. And I hope she knows she's more than welcome to join for Halols any time.
