  • LETS TALK ABOUT THAT FACE IN PICTURE THREE. IT'S PRETTY UNTOUCHABLE.

  • That beach scene is aces!

Case is doing much better, big brother Tars is looking after her. Sorry about the pee pad but the double head tilt is a winner for me.

  • I look forward to beach days :)

Good to hear Case is recovering well.

Charlie had her first puppy class on the weekend. I wasn't overly enamored with it but it was largely the teacher and it's not the same person each week. I'm partly doing it to let her socialise a bit and also to help me keep on track with doing training stuff.
Unless I change my mind I can't imagine I'll keep going after this period I've signed up for. All I really want is a doggo that doesn't pull on the leash and that comes when called. Everything else is gravy really and I find some of their end goals to be a bit too controlling and not so doggish. I don't want her to feel like she needs my permission to do everything.
  • Comfy beds everywhere and she likes the shitty gym bag...

She is judging those slippers as I would.
Skerret's posting is ok to trip balls to and read just to experience the ambience but don't expect any content.

  • Assuming they're durable I'd say they're more or less a perfect pair of slippers.
  • That is some carpet.

I can see why you've tried to cover it with shoes.
  • She is absolutely adorable Shabs :)

It's been great for hiding all the doggy dirt and hair. It's great!

Question for the dog owners here.

Pretty sure I mentioned B's colleague before, the one who has a husky who's inside the apartment all day. B came home last night with a new story, his colleague has moved one or two weeks ago and now lives with a friend in a bigger apartment. Around the same time the dog stopped eating, he took her to the vet who said it was very likely to be psychological. The dog has also thrown up a couple of times and the moved in friend isn't happy with that. Solution of B's colleague: put her in her cage during the day. B immediately told him off for that, that's not really how you're supposed to take care of a dog. I'm still not sure if his colleague is a bit ignorant or just a bit stupid.

I've been playing around with the idea of offering to take her for a walk two or three times during the week. I don't have much to do anyway, gives me a reason to ride my bike that B bought for me during the week and I wanted to do some more afternoon walking anyway. We took care of her a couple of times when the colleague was away for long weekends, never had any real problems.

The thing is, I'm not a professional and I haven't grown up with dogs in the house. I looked back for pop's post about dog walkers:

    Things to look for:
    • A proper business, not someone looking for a casual few quid.
    • Appropriate liability insurance and pet first aid training.
    • Not taking too many dogs out at once.
    • Someone local to you.
    • Flexibility – if you need to change their days etc, can you?
Well, I'm definitely not the first. I can't work here anyway, my main reason for offering it would be for the dog's health and happiness, and mine.
I don't have the insurance or first aid. I wouldn't mind getting the training done, but I'm not even sure if B's colleague has actually done it. Not a valid reason of course.
The last three are all positive, I wouldn't be taking any other dogs, I'm fine with the distance I need to travel and I'm fairly flexible, I'm just not gonna do it every day.

I'm not even sure right now where he moved to, if he's even close to a park or not. Most apartment communities that allow dogs are build in such a way there's loads of grass patches between the buildings and that's where most people walk their dogs.

It started as a good idea when I first had it, but as my brain usually does when I start thinking, everything that could go wrong immediately starts to take over and I'm just not sure. Other dogs off leash, the eating of unknown plants, not listening (although I don't think I'd walk her off leash, maybe after a while), not having that much experience with dogs... I have mostly been the one that held her leash when we looked after her, and never had any real problems there. Could keep her in place when other dogs were around.

Just kills me that she's inside the whole day, especially since she's an active dog. Would taking her out an extra two or three times a week even make that much of a difference?

I haven't offered it to him yet, so wouldn't even know if he's up for it. So for the people that have dogs, is this really a stupid idea?

  • Yeah, take the dog out. It’d make it a fuck ton happier plus it’ll get you out and about more and you’ll end up meeting new people too.

The biggest downside that I can see is that you’ll end up getting too attached and offering to home it yourself. Which, now I think about it, would be better for the dog anyway.
  • Yeah, what Uncle said. My points were about choosing a professional, ways to decide how to trust a total stranger. You’re a friend. Totally different situation.

Will it help the dog? Yes.
Will it help the owner? Yes.
Will you look after the dog responsibly? Yes.

    Do it.

Growing attached might happen, but I know we could never afford it. They up the rent here if you have pets, and in most places only cats or small dogs are allowed. We have thought of getting a dog before, but both B and I would have a slightly bigger dog, so a garden would be needed.

Thanks for the replies, I just got it in my head that I might be offending him by offering to help him, or that I would not have the knowledge to do it in the best way.

    His toe beans tho
  • Agree with everyone here, above anything else it'd be lovely for the dog if you started walking him.  An old chap in my local park used to walk a Golden Retriever every day.  She was only 7 or 8 years old, but she was fucked.  A fat mess of a thing, struggling to keep up with a pensioner.  She was a family member's dog apparently, and he said that the final straw was when the owner (his daughter maybe?  This was a while ago so I've forgotten the details) told him she'd only eat chocolate biscuits (so that's all they fed her, hence the size).  Rather than ring the RSPCA about his own family, which he admitted he should've done, he added long walks to his daily routine.  She thinned down a fair bit, despite continuing to live with the biscuit feeders.  They were probably the best years of her life.
  • Toe beans so best.

    Good boy.

All cats are plotting to kill you all the time, but the urge to have someone feed them is stronger.
