    Viagra Boys in Glasgow tonight.
Was meant to be at The Hug & Pint but was moved to The Art School.
I'd have been none the wiser and turned up at the wrong venue if I hadn't checked it on Facebook earlier, so, um, disaster averted.
Anyhoo, they were blindingly good. A titanic wall of bass and attitude. They played songs. The songs were good. The crowd went nuts.
If you get the chance, go see them.

Yeah, they were absolutely brilliant at The Cluny 2 - the smallest venue I've been in for ages and perfect for them. Just insanity and a pulsing wall of groove.

  • All Points East tomorrow, Chems, Primal Scream, some other people.

Then the missus is off to Amsterdam and I'm left to my own devices for the bh weekend. Got a bag of green in for the first time in a couple of months, and Lizzo gig on Monday. Gonna be all coming up me.

Should probably tidy my house at some point also.

Barely been to anything since kids came along. But going to Muse in two weeks time. Not even listened to their newer stuff so I'd better get my Spotify on...
  • Really wanted to go to Honeyblood’s album launch tonight, but gotta prepare for moving house tomorrow instead. Shame, I’m really enjoying all her new tunes.

Kate Tempest is a local lass y’know. I went to school with her brother. Scored weed off her once too.

  • Saw Tempest at Outlook and she was brilliant.
  • She is a totally different proposition live.  I find her recorded stuff to be sometimes quite a hard listen.  But the immediacy of her live performances elevate her offerings to another level.

Spent the evening in a railway arch in East London listening to a blues band play a selection of songs that could have been performed at any time in the last 50 years, in any bar in the world to an audience that threatened to have fewer people in it than the musicians onstage and, despite all that, it was really quite great.

Just tried to book a few tickets.  Nope, sold out.  Didn't realise she was playing there until I saw the sign up on the Broadway, then typically dragged my heels another week.  Shame.  Probably wouldn't have been better than when I saw Chas n Dave there anyway.

Ah well. Still, Chas and Dave must have been fun. I almost went to see them at the Amersham in New Cross, although there was a note under their name saying ‘not the original Dave’.
  • Sadness.  Saw them there maybe 10 years ago, it's still a good venue for live music.  My mate's band played their one and only gig there about 5 months ago.  He's doing open mic stuff in New Cross now, reckons he enjoys it but that sounds like a hiding to nothing to me.

Absolutely shattered today but still reeling from that Manics gig last night. I've seen them 20+ times and they're a consistently "good" live band who don't tend to half arse their way through live nights, but last night was something special. Fuck knows that those 50 year olds have in the tank because they mowed down 28 odd songs at some clip. I guess with it being This is My Truth there was the feeling among some members of the StayBeautiful community that it would be quite an MOR set during the tour, but they tended to really amp up the TIMTTMY (Tim Timmy? Southpark.jpg) material, and the insertion of Prologue To History, although removing a song I loved, really kept it going.

Following the album (SYMM still garbage btw) they just kept going, launched into Sleepflower (FINALLY) and just rollocked through a makeshift greatest hits set. Their version of Sweet Child O Mine is better than anything Axl Rose could even begin to knock out these days, and JDB gets bonus points for being able to be Slash as well. Culminated in ferocious versions of You Love Us, No Surface and of course ADFL.

These fucking guys. Honestly. I'd pay money to go see em in another city *looks at tour itinerary*. Utterly incredible. People gobsmacked at the end, and the front row gang (TM) of which I still am a part of for MSP (fuck you sound desk wanks) were properly floored by it.

This time last year I was lucky enough to see LCD Soundsystem at SWG3, this year it's MSP. Must be something about May.
