The Division
  • I'm up to level 26.
I've played a lot of it solo but the ability of red enemies to absolutely melt you in a couple of seconds can make just getting too a mission start point a bit frustrating.
There's been times when I'm solo that I've been engaging one enemy group and another enemy group have swanned around a corner behind me and joined in and before I've had time to even realise what's happening I'm returning to a safe house to respawn.
If even happened at the start area of a main mission last night.
So I've been matchmaking when it comes to the story missions post level 22.

Yeah, you can get shredded quite quickly at the higher levels, even more so at WT5 if the internet is to be believed.

I think the replies to some of this is that you might need to start looking at the stats of the items instead of just chucking on whatever has the higher level number.  I was and still am terrible about this part because I'm pushing to GS425 to get Tidal Basin unlocked.

I'm going to start looking at getting a proper set of gear regardless of the GS so that I don't just get melted.  There's a reddit build by MadMolly that has enough heal sustain to solo most of the endgame content [not enough to just facetank everything] and that fits me quite well.  I've very sporadic gaming time these days so being able to just bumble through the whole thing has been quite enjoyable.
It's a goddamn snoozefest out there.
  • I'm now in world T1 with a GS of about 290.
My past experience with Div1 has me just throwing the gear with the highest numbers on for the time being. The game throws so much gear at you that its not worth worrying about mods, recalibration etc... Until you start to see fewer increases in gear stats, in my opinion.
There seems to be plenty of people willing to co-op if you go to a stronghold and matchmake, this more than makes up for any unoptimised build you have currently.

Yeah, I've just been chucking it on but sometimes I feel like I'm a little more underarmoured than usual.  Just finish Tidal Basin so going to get my loot grind on!

    Might go into the DZ.
It's a goddamn snoozefest out there.
  • Been on it for two days and I've noticed my agent seems very clumsy. I keep stumbling up and down stairs. Oh and I crapped myself the first time I got caught in a thunderstorm
I'm also using a lot of guns I avoided in TD1. It seems a lot easier than the beta.

Anyone know who the black clothed ninjas with dustbin lids on their arms are. I keep encountering them at night. They just appear out of nowhere and surprise me?

I know this won't matter to you end-game players, but as you're levelling to 30, be sure to re-visit the Control Points you've freed - the loot crates (bar the big yellow one) respawn every 24 hours. All of my High End gear has come from those.

Its stress-free loot. Just tonight i got 8 High Ends. All upgrades to my set-up. default_happy.png

  • I will say that while you are doing the same things as the last one. It does a fantastic job of rolling out new content ALL the way through the game, even into the endgame stuff I'm doing things ive not done before and it's mixing things up.
The exact opposite of other looter shooters ala Destiny.

I was chatting to someone about this earlier - its the only game of this type that rolled out Day 1 with no server issues, and knowing the streamers and maniacs were gonna rush to Level 30 within a week, had a legitimate end game ready. And not a limited rinse-repeat affair. Variety!

I know this only through here-say because i've been taking my sweet time. I hit 30 this evening, and even though i'd been holding onto all my Side Missions for the final XP bump from 26-30, it only took maybe 5-6 to push me over. Then i realised i have the Strongholds to beat before unlocking my specialisation. So much content.

You'll struggle to find a game that gives you more bang for your buck. Not gauged by hours played, but by the fact even a minor session wandering around can be as rewarding as following the beaten path, or chasing the RNG. Its a rare thing where a game makes you feel like the time you've spent with it isn't wasted in anyway.
  • I like that it rewards exploration with good items and crafting stuff.
  • Their's certainly no shortage of things to do. And every street has some sort of firefight kicking off between rival factions. Most times I just sit in cover and watch it play out.

A couple of points have puzzled me lately. Like where the fuck is the chainsaw noise coming from. I can hear it but I can't bloody find the source and secondly when if ever can I equip the compound bow. It has some serious range and wipes out half my armour in one hit, plus I look comical with arrows stuck in my clothing. Also why doesn't my agent have a torch! Relying on muzzle flash to light up dark areas eliminates the stealth side.

  • I don't have a clue what was going on yewterday but I started a bounty and I just couldn't seem to get to it. EVERY time I ran into even a small posse of reds I was getting melted in two to three shots.
So I did some matchmaking and 3 randos joined in, we were constantly man down and in the end we will got killed and lost the house bounty. It was incredibly hard, maybe something had gone a bit screwy, so...
I left and joined a random squad who were doing a story mission. The thing is they were gear score level 495+ while I was only 302, so I was a bit outclassed but I managed to hold my own.
Come the end of the level a couple of them decide to drop/share a load of 440 gear for me and I jumped all the way up to level 420, which makes life both easy and a bit pointless in my current world tier (2). It wss really nice of them tho.

I've been down their a few times in search of printer filament, haven't found any nor the source of the chainsaw noise but their are things that inhabit the realm that are seriously dangerous for the unprepared. I'm only level 13 but get a serious kick by climbing out another manhole victoriously.

Good to have you on the good ship Divvy then DS. It'll look might purdy. My Ubitag is DAQAttak sadly.. I think I got pissed off when all my usual ones were gone? Or drunk.. one or t'other. There's a PC clan that 'Haak got us invited to I think? Subbas in there I believe. It's got enough folks active in it to get some free loot weekly but you'll not be worrying about that 'till you get the right lady unlocked in your base.

The chainsaw noise does come from somewhere for suresies Panty. Or more accurately, I've seen it's source now and again. I've also been grinding out some calls and happily dumped, sorry, shared any of my less funky looking loot to the other randos. This thing does like to shower you in drops. I started the second character just to get more room to store stuff on. I don't think all that many people know how to share stuff or bother to even stop for more than 5 seconds...

I've got one warrior princess character up to WT5 but the lack of crafting bench fix (it's stuck on WT2 maybe and I can't make it go betterer to make stuff useful for me now) made me stop there really. I've got ol' mutton chops Cleetus up to 30 as well and just need to do the last stronghold to get to WT1 and see if he can get his crafting bench upgraded. I've heard they're maybe rolling out a fix for the crafting tables in the next patch but they said that last time...

I'll keep an eye out for your invite, DS.  Luckily I didn't have a bench problem, unless it's supposed to go higher than 490?  I did find it odd that the cap is 500 but the bench only goes to 490.

I think I'm about 470ish now and I'm not sure if I should start thinking about proper gear.  I tried Roosevelt on challenging and after wiping once at the first burn pit, everyone bailed.  Was annoying as I think we could've played that part smarter.  The enemies just zerg-rushed us and pushed past the spawn point at the entrance so if I spawned back in, I got melted within a few seconds.

I figure I've got until the raid drops to get to 500 and I haven't even stepped foot inside the DZ yet.

I did sell all of my inventory as I got annoyed at how much I was hoarding.  It sounds super nerdy but I'm going to start an inventory notepad doc so I can keep 1-2 bits of gear for each talent and stat I want and easily replace them when needed.  Currently it's a nightmare but I'd much rather play the game, not play inventory management.
It's a goddamn snoozefest out there.

There's another bug at the minute at those levels too Subba though to good to hear you didn't get the Crafty Table o' doom. I can only make stuff up to 350 or some such nonsense.

At higher T5 levels the enemies have had their shields and health buffed so much that when their ai routines run a scan to compare theirs with yours they see the humans as basically near death or piss easy to kill and it turns almost all of them into rushers. This is pretty hard to deal with often by all accounts as the hoomans don't have the dps needed to deal with them all at once from all angles.

They're working on a fix apparently.

I've gone through ruthless hacks at the inventory here and there as well. Nowadays I also try to keep one of every talent. Ish.. or if they've got a big damage to elites roll or summat.
It's a bit of a pain in the butt but there's no penalty to making new characters so you can use the stash to funnel stuff to other pack mules if you want to go all uberl33t.

  • I've seen quite a few players between GS 505-515. Maybe it's different on console though they all seem to have a M60 on their backs and I've been using the same gun and mk17 with stability mods for wiping out elites.

I did get to finally meet a chainsaw weilding elite on the street today but the trusty M60 cut him and his squad to pieces before he could reach me.

Also discovered today that deconstructing mods gives you printer filament.

You can push your gearscore higher than 500 by using the recalibration station. It seems that at that point though gearscore doesn't mean too much and you're far better off tuning builds for gear set bonuses or particular talents, weapons and that sort of thing.
It's a different system to your Destinies and whatnot.

Yeah, I seem to have dodged the table bullet.  I've read about the HP thingy.  One thing I will say is that the devs are ridiculously good at hitting Reddit to answer questions and give updates. The two pinned threads show that this game seems to have legs to weather any of the criticisms.

Also I swear I played with JokerUnique yesterday.

There are green drops for full sets.  One had a spraypainted american flag on the chest piece.  I think it's up in the air on whether they're more useful than a specifically crafted set of gear.  They're great for noobs like me who get headaches when trying to figure out what I want to combo together.

I'm a big fan of the lmg's in this.  Nothing like hearing everyone else go quiet to reload whilst I'm not even halfway down the magazine. Big grins.

I saw a 500+ doing serious damage with a pistol too.  God knows what it was but it was lethal.
