Engine looks solid. Hell of a lot of menus, but I guess that's the nature of the beast. Think it'll be boss in co-op, but the jury is out on the SP keeping my interest passed the honeymoon period.
Ach, that's a real shame - I enjoyed the first.
I guess it's not a huge surprise, as there were plenty of rough edges on the first, but I was hoping that the success of the first, plus a long(ish) dev time and the MS backing would let the dev team rebuild from a reliable base. It's still possible that they'll fix it up with patches, but I didn't get the impression the launch date was set in stone and something that they had to hit, so it's not like they had to push it out the door in a mess... so that doesn't bode well either
I'm still going to suck it and see with it being on Game Pass. The first one was a bit of a buggy mess and copped some poor scores but still managed to be a compelling take on the zombie survival thing.
I doubt it, as it's getting a physical release at the same time. It's not the same as the early access stuff which you expect to be half finished and buggy.
That's the last straw now for Xbox. Jesus Christ are we ever going to get decent first party / exclusive games? They better fucking show up at E3. Gits!
The first was epic; Chet & Jon's discussion of it was the best analysis I thought; "the zombie game you've always wanted." What it needed was something like a Walking Dead licence and a massive budget thrown behind it maybe.
I think if you can crack the systems and the micromanagement it'll still be a real gem. It's certainly quite unique in a lot of its systems. Shame EG didn't mention much about the multiplayer either, I know there were some issues with that and it's maybe a bit of a sideline, but I'd like to know.
I might actually start the remastered first game. I really, really enjoyed the world building, and establishing a little self-sufficient community. Depending on how hard the bugs hit I reckon I'll still get a decent chunk out of this new one.
The multiplayer seems to be an afterthought, which is a shame as it's the only real addition to the first effort. Being tethered to the host seems daft and very limiting. No kiting zeds away from an area for a mate to scavenge in, no call for a rescue from your pal back at base because you're surrounded and end up hiding on a roof etc.
We ended up getting a decent base going last outing. Was only the stutter that I disliked about it, but that in turn made combat a nightmare. If it was super polished it'd be my ideal zombie game.
