NASA have previous for screwing up.
They lost the original apollo 11 moonlanding footage. After a year long search they were discovered in a dusty cupboard in an Australian university. This is the original footage of one of mankind's great achievements. You'd have thought they'd be under lock and key somewhere safe or in a museum exhibit.
