Of course. It all becomes clear!

I swear she's starting to exhibit OCD behaviour; she probably has access to 50-ish socks. What's the betting that those last 2 knobs would have ended up with some green ones on them if I hadn't walked in at that moment? She's always organising things; she certainly didn't get it from me!

  • We had the 12 week scan on Friday. Turns out we have to have another scan and tests on Thursday as baby has a 'thick neck' so they want to rule out the possibility of down syndrome or any heart problems. We have been devastated, lots of crying has been done. Praying that baby will be healthy but fear the worst now.
  • Hopefully it'll all be okay.

Sometimes the scans are wrong, just remember that.

  • Hopefully just a precautionary measure, but I can understand the anxiety you must both be feeling.

    fingers crossed for you both

Anyone who's seen a sonogram will know that prime's not wrong. It's amazing what can be figured out from them but they're not infallible.

    Best wishes to you both.

  • Good luck Plan M; from experience, they are ALWAYS massively, massively over-cautious with this sort of thing, and will mention even the 0.0001% possibility of problems so there's no comeback if said problems do arise.

We were send into paroxysms of panic when we got a letter saying that Nim had failed a test that indicates cystic fibrosis, and we had to bring her in for another test to have it confirmed.  We were distraught, as you'd expect, but it turns out she was fine.  The second test was completely 100% clear, and we were subsequently told that we might have been invited in for another one because they lost the sample, because there was a problem with running the test, all sorts of things; only one of which was they thought she actually had it!

I wish they had just told us.  I'm sure this'll be the same.  They'll just be doing absolutely everything.  Best of luck regardless.
  • Nim just saw me using the forum, and spotted Paul the Sparky's avatar (the Polyton logo).  She looked for a few seconds, then exclaimed "that's little man hat game!  That's Gomez!"

Although she stumbles over his name a bit and calls him gozmez, but it's still cute.
  • we didn't have a scan for quite a few things. Olivia was underweight but that was it. They looked quite suprised when in the latter stages we confirmed we hadn't wanted tests for things.

That happened with my first one. @elmlea @metagonzo  are right - they always err on the side of caution with these things. Always. They said that my girl had a 1 in 60 chance of having Downs and that we could have an amniocentesis to check.
Its so f**king difficult to see things from any other point of view just now,

I will pray for you. Everyone here will be thinking about you and your wife as well.
  • Thanks for the kind words, chaps. Much appreciated.
  • Seems the boy might have croup :( Mrs took him to the doctor today as he had trouble breathing in the night and had a cough. He's got steroids now.

  • whats croup? I could google it but i'd prefer a simple answer than trying to work it out from latin terms on wiki.

  • Very nasty-sounding cough, usually passes in a week or so, but in the mean time, the cough sounds like a barking seal, and you have to keep a sick child calm so they don't set it off.

You have my sympathy matty, neither of ours had it, but I've known several who have and it's exhausting.
  • Thanks Mar. It will mean lots of restless nights I think. The doc gave an inhaler too which is supposed to help them comfort wise.

Good luck to Plan M – hope you get better news today.

That's one thing we HAVE used and they both hated it! Ended up forcing screaming babies into the face mask so that they could stop wheezing. Nightmarish. Hope yours is a little calmer about it! But once it's in them, it works a treat, so definitely worth doing.
  • Crikey, I'll bear that in mind!

Thanks mate. Today we saw the specialist doctor and we were in there for ages as they had real trouble getting good quality images due to our baby trying to hide! But they managed to get a more realistic measurement of the neck this time and it's only 3.8 mm thick compared to the 5.3 mm last Friday. He took us into a small room for a chat and said it might be nothing to worry about as many babies show thicker necks at scans. But my wife insisted she wants to go straight for CVS to find out if the baby will have some kind of problem. So he booked us in for one on Wednesday. We are more hopeful today. It was amazing watching the baby moving around in the scan!
  • Glad to hear the scan was much more positive! Can't blame you for going for a CVS. Once the idea has been planted, you'll start worrying.

Hopefully you guys can breathe a little easier now!
  • Thanks mate, hopefully all of this is just a blip. Life isn't suposed to be easy I guess.
