Alright, hob is shitting me. Down to medium settings and it's still stuttering like crazy in spots. It's on the ssd. Might be the same issue as d2 with windowed full screen vs full screen, but it doesn't seem to go full screen at all from windowed fullscreen.
(I realise that may seem obvious, but d2 was a mess of stutter in fullscreen, but put the settings to windowed full screen and it would still be full screen and run perfectly.)
Sounds like a frame syncing thing, this is why Freesync/G-sync are such a big deal. When you run stuff in borderless windowed it effectively uses the Windows' desktop framebuffer, so it should be vsyincing by default IIRC. Not ideal if you're going for minimal input lag, and I've usually found BW to be a little more stuttery for some reason, so I prefer not to use it.
Hrm, seems like you should be fine with those specs. Check what framerate you're getting, if on Steam you can enable an FPS counter under Settings - In-Game. Ideally you want the FPS to match your refresh rate, I guess that would be 60Hz? If it's dipping lower then enable V-Sync, and if higher then try enabling fast-sync which is in the Nvidia control panel 3D settings, that should keep the frames being sent to you screen at a consistent rate. Also maybe try a frame limiter, should be able to enable that in the Nvidia settings too.
Maybe enable Windows 10's game mode, see if that helps. And if you haven't already disable all bloatware stuff that doesn't need to be running in the backround. Keep an eye on the task manager while you play, see if you can identify a CPU bottleneck or something. If you right click on the CPU utilisation graph you can change it to show the logical processors, which is the cores and the threads of your chip. If one thread is being maxed out, then that could be causing stutters, though not necessarily.
But unfortunately it might just be the engine or something, some game engines either run poorly on certain hardware configs, or are just downright badly optimised.
Ok, windowed full screen worked properly again today. First time I did it it was actually window. Settings back to high and it was not bad. Still being a bit wank though. I might go medium on w/fs and hope it's stable.
The other issue is I'm fucking lost as to how to progress, but I guess you can't help with that.
It is weird though, because it's a nice enough looking game, but doesn't look like it should make the laptop work as much as Echo, for instance, but Echo is running like a champion.
Optimisation issues are a bitch. Can affect any system though, including consoles. People are much more aware now though I think, what with the likes of Digital Foundry and others doing great work to analyse the latest releases.
Are you running the game at 1080p to match your desktop and native? That's recommended for fullscreen. Try (stick to if it's better) windowed for lower game resolutions.
Looks like it’s using the onboard graphics? Right clicking on the desktop and choosing properties or Nvidia control panel will give you the option to tell it to use the GPU. I think.
That 1050ti should run anything but the most demanding games in 1080p60hz without breaking a sweat. Noice!
If stuff's stuttering it's probably the dev. Or the driver spazzing. I sometimes have that when my pc enters sleep/hibernate and wakes with steam running in the back ground. Games flicker and stutter in an epilepsy inducing fit for no reason whatsoever. Restarting steam usually solves it.
